It isn't - and won't be - written into law. This won't make a blind bit of difference to anyone except subscribers of those few ISPs.

Bleh, I see the "problem" but I say it is a per-household problem and not a national problem. Making political coin on this is just retarded, and a step in the wrong direction. I see little problem with ISPs adding standard blockers to a person's router and let the owner himself opt whatever by his own free will. But no mercy to the ones that try to make a great firewall around me.

This is the first I've heard of this, and I'm in the UK.

In any case, it's impossible. How are ISPs supposed to go out there and block all pornographic content?

Also, don't blame the service provider, blame the parent who allows one in three 10 year olds to browse the internet unsupervised.

Indeed, anyone who lets a child under 12 have unsupervised internet connection is not doing their job.

Trying to block all porn on the internet is going to be like trying to stop all forms of stupid in humanity. Futile and punishing.

Thought I'd have that here to save time.

This is the first I've heard of this... Won't work. You can't stop the internet.

Also, most porn sites these days have their own opt-in page. You click the link, it takes you to a page that says "This website contains pornography. If you're under 18, go away now." What else can you do? If this ever does become law, all that will happen is tech-savvy kids will get around their parents' settings and find porn. Or maybe we'll go back to kids finding their dad's stash and enjoying that. Either way, sex is a major industry and you can't just hide it.

There is such a thing as parenting. Have we all forgotten that? Jesus tapdancing Christ.

Parenting is one thing, spending your entire life looking over your kid's shoulder is another. There are some things kids need to learn on their own.

Maybe if Muslems had more porn and learned the proper frapping techniques, there would be less jihad. Women have the answer to world peace (piece) and they're sitting on it.

At a certain age, yes. However, we really don't need nine year olds watching hardcore pornography.

Sure, but the vast majority of nine year olds aren't remotely interested in pornography and probably wouldn't really understand what they were seeing anyway. And by the age of 12, it's becoming a going concern for them so it's only fair they get a look at the real thing. Maybe if the kids learn from porn and spend the whole time jizzing on each other's faces there'll be a reduction in teenage pregnancy.

I'm pretty sure we can debate the opposite on that point.
