Hey guys. I've always been curious as to what's happening for this mod when it comes to new maps. I havent seen any progress related to that in quite some time. I know you guys need a mapper but JDK made some before his hardrive crashed didnt he? What kind of new maps can we expect that havent been seen yet? Do you guys have any new space or land maps to show off in 1.2?

I've seen a topic before about the size ratio of the maps and how some people (myself included) think the vanilla maps are a little too small. Have you or do you intend to address that?

Sorry for all the questions but I was just wondering what you guys have been up to and what your plans and progress are regarding new and existing maps for land and space.



Related to new maps I just want to say that if the main issue of getting new maps and models is because you don't have a mapper/modeler, with 1.2 being released, I think you have a good chance of attracting some talent to your cause. I wish I could get you guys the help you need because I see the potential you're trying to reach with this mod. Was there anything that I or other forum members could do to help you in this area?

As far as custom maps go, we haven't anything sinister up our sleeves like we did with the AI. There are maybe a couple public-release adaptations that haven't officially been announced yet, but that's it.

We have no mapping staff. jdk is gone... probably for good. I'm capable of fixing bugs in the maps, but that's about it.

I'd like to hire an experienced mapper from the EaW community to serve as our mapping lead and run the department, ideally with only minimal input from me. That person would would recruit, train, and direct mappers and prop artists in order get us unique maps for every planet (and maybe the odd Skirmish map). Hopefully the v1.2 exposure is enough... I'll have to keep working on the help wanteds.

You could pick up z3r0x from the Everything Empire at War forums. That man can make a full map in anything from 8 to 20 hours.

At size 20 maps no less!

He's "ALMOST" finished. Meaning he has 3 bugs left to iron out and some chrome polishing to do around the edges. I know he redid the AI and is looking into ways to make it fit nicely in his mod.

Still, it's a good idea, he definitely has talent but the only way to know for sure would be to ask him... I personally think that he's going to want a break from modding for a while, but that's just an educated guess.

Yeah, he's almost finished with hi mod, and for the most part, he's been having to do a good portion of it on his own.

If he's tired, you could ask if you could just use some of his maps for 1.2 and then have him design new maps for the next version.

That's actually good news! Is it something hair-pulling hard or just a hairsplitting leftover that you didn't feel like doing. In any case, keep up the good work! :evgr:
