I eat Galapagos Islands for breakfast!

Yea, Spartacus was way worse. So... I should probably be thankful that GoT doesn't go that hardcore? I mean... GoT had one episode where no one was nude. That was pretty cool.

And by the way... it is absolutely not a battle unless people are wearing armor.

Yield, you. And don't ask to be carried. Lannisters don't like carrying things.

I have to say the nudity in GOT takes up just the right amount of attention. Its not like it overshadows the hate and crimes that they apply to one another.

True.. but it just seems forced sometimes. Like they must have someone nude this episode. Following the book or not... some scenes could be more subtle.

Usually the nudity is combined with story elements, I can't recall any of these scene not bringing anything new to the table. Intimate situations brings intimate information out of people after all.

So, being done with my exams I decided to see what all this Game of Thrones fuss was about... and holy crap, that's a good show! I've watched all 20 episodes in 4 days. I probably would've watched the whole thing in just 2 days without those pesky social commitments. Now I'm experiencing some serious post-series depression, like this:

On the positive side, I've bought the box set with all the books so that will keep me busy for another while.

Yeah! Fantastic show! I liked it also very much! Can't wait till next spring! =) However, there are some differences between show and books, but they are not so important (partialy) =)

Nice going Phil, that sort of rush must leave a hell of an addiction itch to scratch off.

Excellent, Sith. Now you can be obsessed with the rest of us.

But I completely forgot to discuss the last season here... season 2. That may be because I was VERY disappointed by it. I'll try not to spoil here. I get the fact that the show wants to be loyal to the books and that some build is required to get to the good stuff, but by Sam... the pacing was so SLOW throughout season 2. I'll say that the 2nd to last episode was pretty amazing, but I have very little good to say about the previous episodes. This is the season where the introduction to warfare is supposed to make things even more intense, but I could almost choke myself due to the last of violence. They intentionally skip all of Rob's battles. Let me say something about the point of the over-excessive amounts of pointless nudity in the show again. There are scenes in the show based on getting people's attention with sex appeal and, spoiler alert, there's twice as much nudity in this season. They have some scenes where they could have just cut out and got to something far more important, but the shift to being more dedicated to the sex appeal than the action really frustrates Pasidon. When they spend about 5 minutes on a sex scene and 2 seconds of a black screen instead of a battle, I'm bound to throw up my horribly gut vomiting rage. Season 3 really needs to get its head focused on what made the series good before it completely drags away all interest. It left on a very promising cliff hanger, so I do have high expectations. Hopefully season 2 will be the build before the really epic stuff. No more build... Please... Pasidon begs of thee'...

They laid an egg with Season Two. The plot pacing, character development, and introduction to new characters was all terrible. They did well in casting (though in retrospect, I would have preferred Charlize Theron to play Cersei Lannister than Lena Headey). However, the people behind the scenes didn't grasp the characters at all. Unlike in the books, Robb Stark was only focused on marrying someone pretty rather than someone important (breaking his agreement with the Freys, but for a much worse reason than in the books). Cersei Lannister was a smug, obsessive schemer rather than a crazy, paranoid idiot like in the books. Littlefinger was given far too large of a role and wasn't subtle about anything in the least.

As others have said, the "mature" segments in the show (nudity and gore) were used very poorly. There was too much T&A and not enough battle scenes. I understand that they had a poor budget and couldn't afford too many big battle scenes, but that's no excuse to sacrifice show time for more Ros scenes when you could have changed some things in Episode Eight to spread out the action throughout the season. That's just shoddy showrunning.

I was very disappointed with this season.

I'll agree with all of dat', except for the low budget thing. The 2nd to last episode, with the battle scene (won't give any more away than that) was super high profile and high budget. This show has a TON of production value and loads of mon'ay, so why won't they show the battles? I hate the answer since it's obvious: they don't feel they're important enough. They feel the air time they have is better left to the dialogue, which is good, if it isn't draggy and is important. But most of it isn't this season.

I'll point to the scenes with Dwarf guy and his new lady friend. She is not at all an interesting character, though she has witty dialogue once in awhile. But the amount of time setting up their relationship was so dull and pointless, it's infuriating. And the whole thing with his sister potentially finding out about her? As much time that was put into that concept, it really led up to nothing. And everything in WInterhold was pointless. It just recycled issues over and over again... king kid (man, I really need to learn these names...) runs away from the keep... ends up never running away,,, annoying ginger guy gets grumpy and people hate him... annoying ginger guy calms down and people hate him slightly less... And everything with Calima and her dragon babies was just an excuse to nap. That lord of light stuff was sort of interesting... ginger lady makes me want to shoot people since she turned out to be a prophitute (Prophet + prostitute). We can't have a female character that doesn't get naked in the show, RIGHT????? Guhhh... the show is just distasteful now. Borderline transparent. Season 3... please be better. I think they have been getting far too comfortable... Time to kick it up again.

I like how we praise the show until Phil says he's into it. As someone watching from start to end rather in a timely fashion, do you think a downgrade has occurred in season 2, Phil?

Yes, but not as much as you guys felt it.

Firstly, I haven't read the books yet so any change from the books wouldn't bother me; I was watching it like a series standing on its own. Also like you said I watched it from start to end so I don't even remember properly where season one ended and season two began. I did notice the slower pace of the second season. The episodes of season two often left me asking "wait, what did actually happen?" when I was done. The last two episodes picked up the pace again though.
The nudity and how it's used didn't bother me much. Same goes for the lack of battle scenes (even though I'm usually a big fan of battle scenes). I don't believe it was the lack of money that made them omit battles, after all they had a 15% budget increase from season one. They simply don't consider them important for the development of plot and characters. Although I thought the battle for King's Landing should have been longer and more epic (spanning two episodes). Half the season builds up for this battle and then it's over fairly quickly.

Also, I loved all the scenes with Daenerys so I didn't think it was an excuse to nap. Although there too, the pace was too slow, especially when they are waiting what seems to be half the season in the Red Waste.

The scenes in the wastelands with miss mother of dragons in season 1 were so intense, season 2 didn't leave me as satisfied. The scene with whacky elf guy getting a crown of gold pretty much set the standard for me for what I should be expecting in the wastelands, and I didn't get scenes like that in season 2.

For the first time in 7 years, time to bring back this old thread for the last discussion. 9 years in the making, 73 episodes and the epic series finale is tomorrow. Who will win it all? It's too bad many good characters had to be killed off, at least not according to the books.

I won't post my opinion about this show until Monday.

I've been rewatching the series since I quit after season 5 when it first aired.  People told me "no, Pasidon.  The show's not becoming terrible."  Alright then.  I finished season 7 last night, and it was god awful.  I'm looking forward to watching season 8 next week and seeing High Lord Coffee Cup.  First of his name.

Yeah. It was great up until season 3, with season 4 being good but showing cracks. Season 5 was terrible, season 6 was terrible with some redeeming moments, season 7 was hilariously bad and season 8 has actually managed to hurt my feelings.

I liked season 4 a bit more when having the ability to watch all the episodes consecutively, and not having to wait every weekend under that painfully slow pacing.  It's just all tragic after that.  About the only thing I liked from season 5 was Stanis Barathian burning his own daughter alive, but after he does that, the show does nothing with it.  This is the point in the show where every single long-term setup they do just falls apart and does nothing.  Like Sir Barristan Selmy?  They set him up to be the greatest fighter in Westros, with hundreds of battles under his belt, and when he actually has a fight 5 and a half seasons into the show... he just gets butchered in an alley.  He doesn't even die in the book at that point, so I dunno what agenda they've been following.

I just got done with the first episode. Not bad... bit too much nudity.......... but that's modern TV for you I guess. A lot of big names in that show so far. We got Bolomir as the ruler of the Northern kingdom... that fat comedian guy who's the high king, or what-not... I forget what the name of his sitcom was. And Jason Moma! Jason Momoa is amazing... he played Ronnan in Stargate Atlantis. But he has yet another role as a barbarian... so good for him.

The first season had interesting names. Sean Bean had been usually a villain in some movies, except this series and Lord of the Rings. Jason Momoa is now Aquaman. Too bad they were killed off after season one. While the drama is mostly tedious since it almost went by the book, the first real battle didn't really begin until episode 19 (season 2 episode 9). The first four seasons had more nudity than the last four seasons.

It's so strange why the series got more popular with viewers and ratings every season until this last season. The plots were too slow in the first four seasons and the last four began to pick up speed but felt like they went off the books.

I forgot that I spoke like a drooling moron seven years ago.  This topic is ancient... good lord.  Please don't read my old posts.  I used more exclamation points than a woman.

And it's no mystery why shows like this do well, rating-wise, up to the end, then people start cawing like animals about how bad it is when it's too late.  This show was slipping four years ago, but no one gave the writers / directors the criticism they so desperately needed.  I'm getting through season 8 right now (I'm watching episode 4 as I'm writing this, but it hasn't made me care enough to pay attention) and it really is awful.  This season is the very element of what a good show would look like when common people get to take charge and do what they want.  Unfortunately, that's not only what season 8 looks like... that's what it is.
