When I started Lone Wolf 5 years ago I was new to modding and learning the ropes.
5 years later and I've come a long way I've improved in skill, knowledge and most importantly organisation.
When I look at Lone Wolf as it is,it's rough and quirky it's potential lost in it's chaos.
It's a huge mess of ideas roughly impemented and unpolished.
Rather than go and fix every loose thread I figure it would be better to start from scratch.
So that's what I'm doing I'm starting Lone Wolf from scratch once more.

So it's time for a Resurrection I'll be starting Lone Wolf again this time I'll be starting with 5 years experience at my back and much better organisation.

I should be clear on what the goals for the Resurrection are.
The goals are to reproduce LW in a more streamlined, polished and enjoyable form.
The mod will still stay much the same only better made.

I'll be recoding it from scratch using the old code as a reference,a lot of the art made will probably still be used but a lot of it will be updated
to a more consistent and higher quality.

This time I'll be making Lone Wolf in a more systematic style focusing on one faction at a time, finishing it before moving on to the next.

There will be changes made to the mod, ideas will be reworked where necessary,or even ideas scrapped.
A lot of old content like old unused units and powers will be removed and all the obsolete art and audio bringing down the file size somewhat.

I'm reworking the various tech trees as well so I'll be uploading them in the coming days.

With this announcement also comes another Beta 0.4 as it is has been cancelled.
I'll likely be releasing a beta soon that will have the mod released as is with the beta factions.
With the mod essentially restarting I'll be removing the old betas from Moddb and Filefront.
The Battle for Dale will continue though with the first beta post Resurrection.

This announcement is just my usual long winded kind but there will be more concrete details forthcoming.
I'll be posting up new topics soon covering specific changes.

I see no reason why you'd remove the current betas, atleast until you get new ones up?

At any rate, seems like a good idea, that I'm sure you'll never see through. There's so few of us left now.. so few..
Which is sad in a way, 5 years is a long time... But modding is essentially most fun when you're doing it :)
Of course, tedious at times, but the results are rewarding!

Good luck

I'm only removing Betas 1,2 and 3 but keeping 3.5 and 3.7.

It should be a lot quicker this time around,I'm currently coding Rohan atm and already it's much more organised.
At the rate I work it'll probably be done in a couple weeks :p

Sounds good - as long as you set your goals and content in stone before you start, and don't change them in future. If it takes you a week to come up with a WIP list that you won't be tempted to change, that's still better than adding months to your finish time because you haven't got a clear, defined direction. If you keep changing and reworking and adding things in, you'll just run into the same inconsistent mess all over again. ;)

If I was better organised I could have finished LW in 6 months but I don't think the mod would be what it is now.
Some of the better features have been the recent ones.

I think the 1 faction at a time thing is going to work best that way I won't be distracted with new ideas as much.
Starting to wish I'd chosen Mordor to be first though, for some reason Rohan is hard for me to work with.
I can never come up with a good look for them.

I've reworked the heroes to be more balanced at least.

It's more a morale issue.. Starting over seems like a good idea, but working on only 1 faction at a time is boring in the long run.. That's why I work 70% on one faction and 30% on the next :p

No, but working on 1 primary and 1 secondary faction is a nice way to go. Then when the primary is about 90-95% done, you can start on a new faction.
Of course, I've found that for myself, needing only 4 factions in T4A, I work primary on the faction I enjoy working on at the moment the most. That way I get to complete as much as possible before morale drops.
Of course it's sometimes itchy when I get back at that faction 6 months later, especially the Rohan heroes I had all coded in, but no art or powers on :p

I've no idea how long till the first LWR beta but I'm thinking the first beta will only consist of the 4 original factions.
If I go with that the first beta shouldn't be too far away.

(Mouth of Morgoth you might want to get a smaller sig, that ones huge)

I've been reworking the Tech Trees today and the focus seems to be streamlining.
I've reworked Rohan,Gondor,Mordor,Isengard,Rivendell and Lorien so far and there's been a few changes.
The big ones will be the heroes.
Heroes will be simplified some will lose abilities and some will even change roles from mid game to early game and vice versa.
There are some new Spells in the works and a few new structures and units.

For instance Lorien will be gaining some Infantry units that will be used in mid game and will reflect Lothlorien's past.

Statues are also getting reworked a bit,Most factions will get 2 statues each giving different buff types and in tribute of a different historical hero.
ie. Rivendell get Statue of Gil Galad which provides an attack boost and the Statue of Earendill which provides armour.

The website is still being worked on with it progressing nicely.
I'll be making some new Signatures and related promotional stuff soon.
I'll be making custom sigs so let me know if you want one.

Leadership abilities are getting renamed fitting a theme.
Most will follow the naming formula similar to "Captain of Rohan" reflecting the hero's position.

I'll be posting the new Tech Trees up sometime in the next few days, once they are all done.

On a coding front the restart allows me to get rid of a lot of the outdated code from 5 years ago such as Harad being referred to as Evilmen in code.
I'll be streamlining the upgrades freeing up a whole bunch for future stuff.

Lone Wolf 2 (for BFME 2) is still going to happen I just don't know when.
I'll probably be making it along side LWR, though I'm not sure.

Lone Wolf is a BFME 1 mod and it will remain so,BFME 1 is the better game.

I have just posted up the first LWR tech tree for Rohan.
http://forums.revora...an/#entry797957
Quite a few changes.

I'll update this post with the other tech trees when they become available.

Oh yeah as you can see the new sigs are ready.
Nothing over the top for them just simple grey scale, what I do best.

I've just written up the new tech trees for Minas Morgul and Dol Guldur, while Morgul hasn't changed much from the last revision
Dol Guldur has changed drastically new units,a new hero and a whole new theme.

With LWR I'll be renaming the Nazgul rendering some of their names into Sindarin and others will get fashioned new Sindarin names.

I'm going to sleep on this new information and post it tomorrow once I've had a chance to finalise things.

I'm really excited for LWR the whole mod will be improved, the plans I've got will take Lone Wolf in a new direction.
The factions will be more defined in structure and aesthetics.

I'm just rambling because I'm excited to be starting over the old flame is very much alive.
