Finally watched the Extended Edition. You could tell they had to do some heavy editing last minute, the extended edition was so much more complete. Flowed together much better. By the way, its not just 20 minutes of extended scenes, several scenes were practically different scenes altogether. But yeah, it was so much better than the theatrical release. Don't take my word for it yet though, I'll have to watch it once more to pick out all the details.

EDIT: Almost forgot, Beorn gets about a minute or so of screen time, much better than the original 15 seconds or so. That made me so happy.

I knew something like that was going to happen... Jackson should have put disclaimers on these Hobbit movies in theaters, warning me that I was about to spend money on unfinished products.  I felt like the 3 vanilla LotR films left out vital plot points as well that were only in the extended editions, but at least those cut movies actually worked in theaters.

That was a beautiful scene, indeed sad that they left it out.

That's a great scene, but I can see why it wasn't used.  There was a battle right behind them in half of the scene, but not the other half.  That's a really bad inconsistency. It's borderline incompetent.  It's an extremely awkward moment with the battle 5 feet behind them... I'm not sure what the thought was there.

It's unfinished. I'm sure battle stuff would've been added in post. There's cables and construction in the shots also.

I would assume they would have a visible green screen then.  Dunno... still would have been better without the battle in the same scene at all.

There is a greyed out green screen behind Bilbo in some places I think, as his "When faced with death..." line in the trailer has its background completely different...

To be honest I never expected that the Elves and Dwarves would take casualties when they fought each other. I believed that just before they engaged that Azog would appear, but damn I can see that there are already dozens of kills before Azog enters the fray. Having said that, the Elven tactic to counter the goats was fricking brilliant!

Th Elven Tactic was really awesoem display ofstrategy and combat expirience(unlike the jump over the Dwarvesto show we are cooler :D :D )but still killing like 500 Ram Riders in less than 7-10 seconds of Battle is ridicilous! :) And there were quite big inconsistancies i nthe Battle Sequance! :) Like how after taking around 18 Ballista Bolts a total of 2 Volleysfrom Ballistas onle 2 seconds after it Elves are like nothing happened and in perfect condition andformation to meet the Dwarves!? Well if I was incharge of the Dwarves and it wasn't a Movie I would have used absolutely different Strategy! ::)

Another sily thing is that Rams disapear almsot entirely with 1-2 excpetions, not to mention how for like 2min of fighting around 5000-6000 Elves are jsut gone,I mean WTF so much Elves and all are dead or did they run!? :DAnother thing is that Dain never uses the Ballistas against the Orcs!! Great battle cool scenes but too much missing and not well done parts! :)

By the way am I the only one whothings that some time after Thorin charfes from Erebor and just before going to fight Azog there are Iron Hills Reinforcments coming cuz we can clearly see them March in Battle Formations with Banners and stuf!?

Too sad Iron Hills is the only Movie Kingdom which was left wuithout Unique Horn Sound :(

P.S. I am so sad for deletign scenes liek Bilbo's Acorn and Thranduil Realizing that Legolas is his treasure,Gandalf Eulogy at the Funeral,Dain proper Coronation,Dain thanking the Eagles so much good stuf was left out  or not even made just for the sake too se more Legolas Stuints for fangirls and more pointless comedy out of place from Alfri a completely unneded Character in that 3rd Movie, and even more Lake Town peasants womand and old people kiling trained Orcs and for Christ sake even Beorn was so left out it isbeyond sad! :(

Already saw them! :-) And they made me really sad!Such emotional and awesome scenes to be left out such a shame! The last Movie was too short even with the EE! :(
And Dwalin one of my favourite Dwarves ever and my.favourite from the Company followed by Balin !ai always loved his awesome Warrior skills and unquestionable loyalty! :-)

So I got around to seeing Battle of the Five Armies Extended Edition. It's boring. While it makes more sense in a few aspects, most of the new stuff was stupid. AUJ and DOS had good additions in their EE to the films, while this one had more bad additions than good. While I still enjoy the first film, and parts of the second and third, I'm pretty sure I'll never find myself in a situation where I'll want to buy the trilogy, EE or not.

According to the Art & Design books, those are religious figures.

Which of course is completely un-Tolkienish.

It's rather sad going back and seeing our excitement for these movies.

To be fair, the anticipation for The Hobbit movies was always going to be better than anything Peter Jackson could come up with.
