Windows XP (SP3)
Retail RA2 and YR, both fully patched
Mental Omega 2.0
NPSE0022
Devastation mod (installed, inactive)
Apocalypse mod (installed, inactive)
And everything's in its proper place. I'm running Yuri's Revenge from an .iso I made so I don't need to insert the disc.
When I run Mental Omega APYR 20psi.exe, the launcher appears with accompanying music. I click "ACTIVATE THE MOD" and get an hourglass cursor. The computer becomes unresponsive. When I ctrl-alt-del, the task manager shows two instances of the launcher, and one instance of Yuri's Revenge. All three are Not Responding.
From this point I have two choices:
1. End one of the launcher tasks. If I do this, both launchers close and YR remains open with MO active (but it doesn't work right). If I close YR and relaunch it, MO is still active and not working right.
2. End the Yuri's Revenge task. If I do this, YR and one of the launchers closes. The other launcher remains open. If I close that (not via the task manager, but by clicking the red X) and then open YR, the game plays normally with MO disabled.
In summary, I think something is interrupting the activation of MO. I try option one from the above choice because it gets me the closest to running the mod... MO seems to load, but only partially. Specifically, here's what I see when I run the partial activation...
The main game menu has been replaced by NPSE0022's. Instead of an animation in a large left panel with a menu on the right, I see a full-screen still image with a column of buttons in the bottom center. This appears all the time since installing NPSE0022 (whether using a mod or not), and that appears to be correct behavior.
If I try to start a new campaign, I can choose between Allied or Soviet forces. There is no Epsilon option. When the first mission begins, the Mission Accomplished message appears immediately and the battle ends, taking me to the next mission. There is no pause between the start of the mission and the "end" of it, no chance for me to bring up the pause menu to abort. It just rolls through mission after mission like that.
If I try to play a single-player skirmish, I only have ten countries to choose from. No Epsilon forces are present in the list. The Mental Omega FAQ says "If you can select between 10 countries only, you surely haven't installed NPatch." Except, I have installed it. Or, I've installed NPSE0022 at any rate; I honestly don't know much about it but it seems to be a particular version of NPatch. Maybe some clarification is in order?
Could my other two mods be interfering somehow? As far as I can tell, they are completely disabled when I try to run MO. Also, neither of them uses NPatch. (If it's not obvious by this point, I've never used NPatch before and don't fully understand it.) The MO Mod Installation instructions say to remove the following files from the game directory: ra2md.csf, glsmd.pal, glslmd.shp, expandmd98.mix, ecachemd98.mix. None of those are present in mine so I don't think that's the problem.
Sorry for the long post. I'm just anxious to try MO and wanted to fully explain my problem. Really hoping somebody can assist here. Thanks in advance!
P.S. I'm a little confused about some versions of different files...
The MO ReadMe keeps referencing 2.5, which according to this post doesn't exist. Can anyone explain why that is?
The MO download page links directly to NP_SE_0022.exe, and that's the link I used to acquire NPatch. However, the official NPatch download page shows 0020 as the most recent version of NPSE. And I'm confused between NPatch "regular" and the Special Edition. What's the difference, anyway?
