I'm trying to play MO but the installation hasn't exactly gone smoothly. Here's what I have, first of all:

Windows XP (SP3)
Retail RA2 and YR, both fully patched
Mental Omega 2.0
NPSE0022
Devastation mod (installed, inactive)
Apocalypse mod (installed, inactive)

And everything's in its proper place. I'm running Yuri's Revenge from an .iso I made so I don't need to insert the disc.

When I run Mental Omega APYR 20psi.exe, the launcher appears with accompanying music. I click "ACTIVATE THE MOD" and get an hourglass cursor. The computer becomes unresponsive. When I ctrl-alt-del, the task manager shows two instances of the launcher, and one instance of Yuri's Revenge. All three are Not Responding.

From this point I have two choices:

1. End one of the launcher tasks. If I do this, both launchers close and YR remains open with MO active (but it doesn't work right). If I close YR and relaunch it, MO is still active and not working right.
2. End the Yuri's Revenge task. If I do this, YR and one of the launchers closes. The other launcher remains open. If I close that (not via the task manager, but by clicking the red X) and then open YR, the game plays normally with MO disabled.

In summary, I think something is interrupting the activation of MO. I try option one from the above choice because it gets me the closest to running the mod... MO seems to load, but only partially. Specifically, here's what I see when I run the partial activation...

The main game menu has been replaced by NPSE0022's. Instead of an animation in a large left panel with a menu on the right, I see a full-screen still image with a column of buttons in the bottom center. This appears all the time since installing NPSE0022 (whether using a mod or not), and that appears to be correct behavior.

If I try to start a new campaign, I can choose between Allied or Soviet forces. There is no Epsilon option. When the first mission begins, the Mission Accomplished message appears immediately and the battle ends, taking me to the next mission. There is no pause between the start of the mission and the "end" of it, no chance for me to bring up the pause menu to abort. It just rolls through mission after mission like that.

If I try to play a single-player skirmish, I only have ten countries to choose from. No Epsilon forces are present in the list. The Mental Omega FAQ says "If you can select between 10 countries only, you surely haven't installed NPatch." Except, I have installed it. Or, I've installed NPSE0022 at any rate; I honestly don't know much about it but it seems to be a particular version of NPatch. Maybe some clarification is in order?

Could my other two mods be interfering somehow? As far as I can tell, they are completely disabled when I try to run MO. Also, neither of them uses NPatch. (If it's not obvious by this point, I've never used NPatch before and don't fully understand it.) The MO Mod Installation instructions say to remove the following files from the game directory: ra2md.csf, glsmd.pal, glslmd.shp, expandmd98.mix, ecachemd98.mix. None of those are present in mine so I don't think that's the problem.

Sorry for the long post. I'm just anxious to try MO and wanted to fully explain my problem. Really hoping somebody can assist here. Thanks in advance!

P.S. I'm a little confused about some versions of different files...
The MO ReadMe keeps referencing 2.5, which according to this post doesn't exist. Can anyone explain why that is?
The MO download page links directly to NP_SE_0022.exe, and that's the link I used to acquire NPatch. However, the official NPatch download page shows 0020 as the most recent version of NPSE. And I'm confused between NPatch "regular" and the Special Edition. What's the difference, anyway?

you say you have those other 2 mods installed, but afaik, MO doesn't work when there are other mods installed, even if they are inactive.

I suggest making a back-up copy of a vlean RA2/YR folder and installing the other mods in there, while keeping a clean copy for MO.
Also use the latest MO patch

No, Doom, that's not the issue. FYI, Devastation uses XCML, too ('twas the first YR mod I ever tried, good times), just weirdly packaged under a bat. XAAO-Apocalypse is indeed a copy-paste mod, that's not a big deal, neither.

Besides, I know what he means, I always had this one. Having two instances of the launcher is normal, because the second one controls the XCML file. You have to launch MO, kill GAMEMD if shit happens and relaunch MO when the launcher gets alive. Second time it'll work.

When 2.0 psi got released, 2.5 was in progress... however later this was changed to a complete restart from scratch, which will end with 3.0.

NPatch was written by VK, and VK never cared about proper versioning. NPSE is close to be NPatch 2.0 and NPatch Autumn Edition is NPatch 3.0. Both features more features.... and more bugs in the run. NPSE 22 was phased out soon after NPAE got released, VK gave explicit permission to Mental Omega to use it.

Yep, VK was a selfless jerk.

Technically 2.5 version was scrapped after some internal betas AFAIK and being redone as 3.0, Anyhow the mod activating problem is simply due to fact that xcc mod launcher sucks balls! It hangs up YR launch like 99% of the time and fails to activate (unpack all files properly) so first activation, when it all jams, you must go task manager and terminate gamemd.exe (not the launcher!) and then xcc launcher becomes responsive again and hit the activation again and then it will do it properly.

This sounds like it might do the trick. I only looked in the Applications tab in task manager, not Processes. I'll try that tonight and post the results. Thanks for the help!

It might also be the Npatch itself, try launching plain old YR with no mods. If you see a different menu screen, it works, and its just the XCC thing.

I don't have it in front of me right now, but when yesterday when I tried running YR with no mods I still saw the NPatch menu screen. Pretty sure that part's working normally.

2.5 was also leaked to the Chinese community by one of the testers at one point so that didn't help much either in its progress. As for the XCC launcher.. hells to the yes it sucks. Espescially XP gets this problem a lot. Vista and 7 suffer a lot less from it, but it's good we're not using it anymore. :p

You guys are using launch base? If so, will you implement support for the Yuri's Revenge Playlist Modifier?

First, YRPM predates LB with like 5 years, the idea was originally Cannis's, it should have a standalone version somewhere on the net.

Second, for various reasons and limitations, YRPM will not be supported.

Well the good news is, I killed gamemd.exe when MO activation failed, and the launcher became responsive again. Then I tried reactivating the mod and it seemed to load correctly...

YR opened and began startup animations.
A Mental Omega load screen appeared for ~8 seconds.
Then the NPatch menu appeared as before.

All that seems right, but the mod is still misbehaving like it did for me yesterday: Campaign missions are declared beaten the very moment they begin. The country select menu in skirmish setup still shows only ten countries with no Epsilon.

Any idea what else it could be?

Have you reinstall the game?

We won't be using Launch Base at all. We'll most likely have our own installer. If Yuri's Revenge is released as freeware any time soon, Mental Omega will become stand-alone instead.

No, I haven't tried that yet. Should I only reinstall YR, or do I need to do it with RA2 as well? Any tips for doing this without disrupting the Devastation and Apocalypse mods I have (which work perfectly), or am I going to need to reinstall them too?
