Except C&C4 failed so they're probably not in the mood to release free stuff, not to mention RA2 is probably the most popular pre-EA C&C game. When the others were released they were all revved up for the grand finale. The games are also no longer downloadable from their website, instead they recommend you buy them as part of the TFD.

How do people publish the mod so that it can be seen in the update/check for mods screen?

There are two ways to do that. Considering that Marshall is unavailable, the first is possibly.
1, Create an UPD, upload, point LBMC to that and keep it updated. The manuals should tell it how to do that.

2, Do the above but also PM the upd link to Marshall to include it into the global update list.

Well not HAVE to, but thats the trend so far.

If they;re not selling it anymore in any form whatsoever, while they still hold the copyright, and CAN sue, it de facto becomes abadonware. And yes, they will win court cases, but in reality, it would be a truly ultimate dick move, as they are to gain nothing, and they'll lose in the court of public opinion, as they have no mechanism where people can buy it legally anymore.

Its just easier to release as freeware as was already done. But I think it would have been a lot more helpful to release the source code as well. Then something like Syringe/Ares could have been implemented years ago, and much easier.

Its actually kinda funny, the whole EA take on the CNC community is that its over. Yes, there's Victory Games, but no one knows what they are upto. I think EA is more focused on other tasks atm, like the BF3/MW3 war. I suppose no wonder the CNC community is dying - total neglect.

As for LaunchBase - why come up with it if no one is going to use it?

The thing is, unlike RA, they are still selling copies of RA2 and its expansion.

Launchbase is just not at a stage where we feel the need to use it. We don't want to deal with issues that might be caused by Launchbase when we already have plenty of work on the mod. That, and we'll most likely have our own launcher, which is just a whole lot cooler.

To be more exact... LB was never tested properly when Marshall was available and all it's bugs cropped up after he had no time to fix them. It's a great utility but it's just not enough mature for such big projects.
