I've been thinking up interesting 'what if' scenarios lately that take some amount of logic and cunning to answer well. Tonight I've come up with one due to the holiday bonanza and all: What if 9-11, or the fall of the World Trade Centers, happened on Halloween day? I've been asking this one today and gotten some pretty interesting answers. People put much reverence and pity every anniversary on 9-11 when the topic seems extra sensitive to some, so it would be an interesting combination on a day we mock death so much.

I like to hope people would just get all morbidly humorous about it and dress up as burning planes and falling buildings. Somehow. I'm not sure on the details of the costumes, but I'm sure someone could make it work. Maybe dress up as suicide bombers? A few people would get offended at first, but then they'd be all like "Well, it sure beats moping on about it for years on end" and everybody's happy.
I hope I am a good enough writer that some day dwarves kill me and drink my blood for wisdom.

That's what one of my buddies said... people wouldn't take '10-31' as seriously and itself would be mocked on Halloween. I can definitively see that, even joining in on it probably, and also see a crowd of people too ashamed of mocking the dead to even celebrate when they normally would.

Yeah, I think the combination of those two would eventually just assimilate 9/11 and give Halloween a sharper edge. celebrate death and all that. Not that I really observe the Halloween tradition, there were some kids dropping by yesterday and the only candy we had in the house was some cake decoration drizzle.

Like frosting? That's a pretty generous offering.

That's the thing with bringing this up here... most Revora residents aren't too connected with the occasions since they aren't American and aren't sensitive about much of anything. I wish we had more people prone to be sensitive towards issues... not only so I have people as easy insult targets, but to get more opinions on these things. I;m not sure what a sensitive American would say about the scenario... I lack complex empathy programs.

Yeah, Revora has become a large majority of Europeans, at least on the philosophical/political subforums :shiftee:

To get a proper response on those questions, you probably should ask someone who lost moderately close family to the event.

I'm guessing that within 20-30 years it will most likely just be one of those past tragedies like Titanic. If Titanic sank on Halloween, I think it would have been more to Halloween's advantage than to the Titanic's tragedy.

Oh, and the drizzle was more like crunched bits of m&m chocolate without nuts. so somewhat anticlimatic :good:
