How to add new skins and models

I have been trying to replace the regular uruk-hai skins in the RJ mod with different skins taken from the Edain mod (purely for personal use, I have permission). So far I have copied and replaced the uruk-hai .skn file (W3D file) in the RJ mod with the one from Edain, and have also replaced the texture (the DDS file). When I open the .skn file, after I have added it to the RJ mod, using RenX, it looks like the Edain model (the one I want). However, when I start the game, the uruk-hai remain the same. I have also tried creating a new asset.dat file, using Sy's asset builder, from the original RJ one with the Edain W3D and DDS files, but yet again the uruk-hai stayed the same. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and instead of suggesting reasons and suggestions, a full walkthrough of how to add models and skins would also be helpful as I am completely new to this.
Thanks very much,

1. the original , the RJ ones , the Edain ones
is it IUUrukahi_SKN ? in all three ?
and then check the textures they all use : is it IUUrukahi.tga (or IUUrukahi.dds ) ?
check this in Sy's asset builder ( view asset )
It must be yes for a name replacement to work .
If the answer is No for any ... then the ini for the mod references a different SKN or texture
and you have to follow the ini / art code to see where the new reference is

well first check the names of all the files you are changing

The original has .sknl, .skl and .sknm aswell as the RJ mod, as Edain just has .skn. As for the file types the textures are all .dds and the skins are all .W3D, and all the names are the same.
Thanks
