IM's tend to be easier, in my opinion, when you want to give hints/tips to people
But then again for some things PM's are better since they can contain much more detail if needed.

Yes, it is convenient for me (PMs) because of parental restrictions. They don't like me chatting with people I don't know from here. And last I checked (which was like a 10 months ago. I couldn't work full time with a mid team at all)
