Im not quite sure if this is planning on being changed, but the fact that theres 2 orc pits for mordor with one that creates stronger units then the other, kind of makes the weaker one pretty much useless? instead of 2 orc pits why not just make the gorgoroth orcs a level 1 unit, morgul orcs lvl 2, and morannon orcs and black uruks level 3 in the same pit?

I quite like the current setup, perhaps we could make the elite orc pit cost more or require an upgrade.
The normal orc pit has always been there for spamming and early to midgame.

For information, the ordinary one is a cesspool, i.e. a toilet ... it even has a name in Debased Black Speech: the Orcs' "pushdug bagronk" or in plain Common Speech "stinking dungpit".

Thank you for the Tolkien lesson that has nothing to do with the post! Haha I wish I knew as much as you seriously I never was able to get into the learning deep learning of Tolkien's works. But I think it could honestly go both ways! It all depends on Naz. Who seems to have gone missing in action recently!

I don't understand why the normal orc pit can't have an option to purchase a pit expansion then have the option to build the new orcs, or just replace the old ones. I don't see much dabbling in the need for the weaker orc if you're at a point to afford the orc pit expansion, except for the occasional player who likes to buy weak units for their low unit value.

Thought it would be easier to just fit them all in one pit considering both pits look the same besides the inside colours, that or another structure to represent the stronger units, which sounds really time consuming and not worth it.

Thank you for the Tolkien lesson that has nothing to do with the post!

I certainly has to do with the visual appearance of the Orc-pit, i.e. PJ's (and thus EA's) shitty interpretation of how Orcs were created. ;)

------------

In an interview concerning the interpretation of his written work into the media of movies (or computer-games) Tolkien has said this:

M.: Unfortunately, Sir, you were indisposed while Peter Jackson's movie version of "The Fellowship of the Rings" was on screen. Yet we understand that you were sufficiently irritated by the product. Would you tell us what, if you had seen the movie, you would have replied to its producers?

JRRT.: They may be irritated or aggrieved by the tone of many of my criticisms. If so, I am sorry (though not surprised). But I would ask them to make an effort of imagination sufficient to understand the irritation (and on occasion the resentment) of an author, who finds, increasingly as he proceeds, his work treated as it would seem carelessly in general, in places recklessly, and with no evident signs of any appreciations of what it is all about.

[...]

M.: Or more conventional 'computer games', as some critics commented. Others have argued that Mr. Jackson relied too much on visual effects and not sufficiently on the depth to the story. What is your opinion, Sir?

T.: The canons of narrative art in any medium cannot be wholly different; and the failure of poor films is often precisely in exagerration, and in the intrusion of unwarranted matter owing to not perceiving where the core of the original lies. He has cut parts of the story upon which its characteristic and peculiar tone principally depends, showing a preference for fights; and he has made no serious attempt to represent the heart of the tale adequately ...

Perhaps at a certain stage you can upgrade the pit and unlock a second commandset which allows you to create the betters orcs, it changes the inside thingy color and you can switch between commandset 1 and 2 at will. :wink_new:

Got you ... always remember to read the text in small letters at the bottom; in this case it says:

(All of Tolkien's statements authentically reproduced from Letters L201, L207, L210.)

The part I quoted is from letter #210, subtitled "Tolkien's comments on the film 'treatment' of The Lord of the Rings" [comment to the proposed story-line written by a certain Mr. Zimmerman, representing an American film company] ... Tolkiens comments might have some relevance for modding too.

Tolkien died in 1973 he didn't see the movies

Indeed, that's why the interviewer politely starts with these words: "Unfortunately, Sir, you were indisposed while Peter Jackson's movie version of 'The Fellowship of the Rings' was on screen". ;)

Apart from these insignificant inaccuracies, I'm sure that Tolkien would agree with my view on the orcpit, that it is dehumanizing and discriminating against the Orcs to picture their dwelling-place as a stinking dungpit.

Well Orcs were always mistaken as some crap force until the last movie. But I mean if you think about it in the movie the uruks were more produced in that "crap hole" not the orcs. We never saw how the orcs were made! Just realized this! Oh my gosh! That building doesn't even represent the Orcs creation in the movies! What a travesty! I'm actually mad that EA made this mistake! I mean I'm not surprised! BUT OH MY GOD!
