By the looks of things, Putin's party United Russia is feeling the Arab spring through the elections. Latest polls shows 45% of the vote going in his favor, which is a brutal drop from 65% in the last election. It even means that he and his cronies have to find a external party to get legislation majority, which somewhat sounds like a democracy to me. Hopefully we won't see him assimilating one of the other closely-aligned parties or the communists just to keep himself in power.

But all in all, a positive event in the global games of politics.

Putin probably already owns the shit out of other parties anyway. I seriously doubt his party losing some influence in polls means a whole lot for Russia.

Also, one of the biggest anti-Putin demonstrations ever happened in Moscow yesterday, around 10000 people was in that one. He is getting punished for acting as if he owns the country, which he could only do while the economy was good. With a less golden economy, he has to work harder to keep respect.

I think you're underestimating his influence. But hey, I could very well be wrong. I'm not that up on Russian politics since I have my own shit to deal with here.

That's an interesting "belief". Not that I think ignoring Russian politics in favor of other topics is a stupid thing to do, but the wording sounded somewhat destructive.

Politics around the world affects our everyday lives. Having a vague generic knowledge of what happens in Russian elections isn't stupid imo. But it is time that could be spent on building a skill in a field instead of knowledge about something you are not very likely to influence. Thats the human condition I guess, choices and the choices not taken.
