Headquartered in the Temple of Solomon in Jerusalem, deep in the territories of the Eastern Roman Empire, the Army of Heaven's Wrath are unique in that they hold only a perfunctory allegiance to the country they are based in, and even that is purely due to the location of their headquarters and the fact that the Empire's mighty trade lanes allow them to afford the Heaven's Wrath's services.

Filling the treasury of the Temple is a more shrewd investment than it would appear at first glance, for though few of these immortal warriors remain after over three thousand years of warfare their effect upon the course of a battle has typically been profound.

First raised by King Solomon himself with his new-found magical power, the original Army of Heaven's Wrath was fifty thousand-strong, and the only thing that stopped them from conquering the whole planet in their god-king's name was his inevitable demise, without issue. He bestowed upon his soldiers a gift of agelessness and regeneration from nearly any injury up to and including those which would normally be incompatible with life. The only sure way to put down a Heaven's Wrath soldier is to remove his head from his torso. Anything less and he will be rejuvenated in short order. His wounds will heal without so much as a scar, his bones will un-break and he will get up and wreak a bloody vengeance upon his assailant.

The soldier is protected by magically-bound armour, which he can summon to cover him at will. Each soldier's armour is unique to him and is adorned according to his will. In past times, soldiers who fought for the Roman Empire may have taken on the guise of legionaries, or appeared as knights in the medieval period. Some armour is fashioned upon that of the samurai or or the cataphracts of Persia. As a result they tend to stand out on the modern battlefield on account of their non-adherence to modern uniform.
In addition to his magical armour, a soldier of Heaven's Wrath also carries a small flattened rod, around 8-9inches in length that fits comfortably into the palm. This is the dietelum, a magical hilt that can form around itself any weapon or tool the wielder wills, from a stabbing dagger or thumbknife to a ten-foot pike to a longbow (in addition, arrows can also be summoned that will disappear or explode magically once they have struck a target). If a shield or offhand weapon are required, they can also be summoned and used, provided the holder of the dietelum does not let go.
