They seem to just fuck things up. How do you get os shp builder to not add them and how do you delete already existing ones that it's added without having to do it frame by frame?

I think this is common misconception, as shp builder makes only a "educated" guess by total of frames if neatly divide by 2 it turns shadows on whether shp has them or not, it doesn't really add them! (what you are seeing is previous frames overlap with so called non-shadow frames of the last half in wrong case) and often the guess is wrong as shadows are ordinary frames like everything else in the shp format and are not specificly told to be shadow frames by format itself.

Just go Options --> Shadows

to turn it off when it guesses wrongly or turn back on.

Newer shp builder has Mass Frame Operations like multiple frames delete in one swoop if there really is such a problem.

Presume you refer to the darkness effect, as being infantry, you have to have shadows for it, blank or not, you must have them equal amount to the normal frames being shadow frames afterwards or your infantry shp gets that darkening effect ingame.

so if normal frames are 300, you gotta have another 300 of blank shadow ones making total of 600 (see westwood infantry shps)

due to game normally presuming it has shadow frames, so if don't want to use the normal blank shadows method (default) you can try telling the game it has no shadow
using NoShadow=yes under the unit entry in rules.

Either way, the issue is coming from you breaking out of the norm with the shp.
