Alright the last update I saw for this game the campaign optimisation, which I am really happy to hear about. I was thinking about reinstalling EAW and downloading some mods in the meantime while I wait for this mod to finish production.

I decided to check out what you guys had accomplished since I had last visited and after reading everything, this was my reaction:

I am highly impressed with what you guys have been doing and land combat looks great! Did not expect to see any updates involving land combat, so kudos to all of you.

I eagerly await this mod's release as I have since 2008. You guys earned my loyalty.

Have to say I didn't expect land updates either. Not sure what I did expect, but it wasn't that. Hoping AT-ATs are as fun as their size makes them look.

22.5 meters tall per ESB. As long as nothing gets behind them, they're devastating. That's one beauty of the Freerunner though.

You guys can take all the time in the world. You can fully expect me to download this work of art when the time comes.

Just curious though, have you toned the speed and range down? I didn't fully understand if you did or not. You guys have really come a long way in the last few months and I am willing to wait longer if you guys are going to continue to add more and more stuff to this.

I just wish that my limited vocabulary could properly express my sentiments regarding your work.

And your mapper is really, really good.

Speed and range have been scaled to something that looks good and works well. Thanks for the compliments

In the meantime though, does anyone have any mods they recommend? I'm trying to find one that has proper scale to it, and is balanced out still.

Thrawn's Revenge is probably the closest in terms of 'realism', but I haven't played it very much. Otherwise there aren't many well-balanced mods for FoC, certainly not with the same level of researched stats as PR has.

I haven't played anything else either, although I want to make a point of doing so after we wrap.

My only problem with Thrawn's Revenge is the scale of the game in regard to sizes and unit damage in land, though I could edit that. What is the scale of your units?

2:3 in space and 5:1 on land.

With every 1 in the game corresponding to...? I'm sorry, when it comes to adjusting size I'm terribly lost.

On the other hand, how would I add unit from another mod to TR? I would like to add aerial units from the Absolute Corruption Mod to Thrawn's Revenge.

I'm just not certain how I would go about doing that properly. My guess would be that I could just copy and paste the data and change the projectiles to the ones used by Thrawn's Revenge.

Regardless, I'm getting excited for Phoenix Rising and I'm trying some other mods in the meantime.

Have you tried asking someone on the TR forum? They will undoubtedly have more insight into their own mod than anyone else. Still, you can proceed by trial and error...

Good luck. :good:

Well the big hurdle, a rigged model, is done. However things like health, scale, etc. will be off. More importantly, you have to get the game to recognize that you're adding stuff in the first place (No idea how Thrawn's Revenge is set up.) and add the icons, text, and so forth so that you can see what you're building, etc.
It gets a lot easier once you learn it, but it can still be a fair amount of tedious work. Also be thankful of the released tools to make it all possible without mind-numbing frustration. Notepad++ is your friend. ALO Viewer helps a lot, and DAT Editor as well as MTD Editor are a must.

Once again though, the fact that another mod has already done all those things would certainly make my job a lot easier though, correct?

Also, will PR have fighters in atmosphere? I've seen some pictures, but was unable to draw a conclusion (other than that cloud cars etc etc etc will be in). I'm just curious cause I would love to see the TIE series in ground combat.

While there are no starfighters in atmospheric combat as of yet, there are airspeeders for both factions, and the occasional gunship.

If you don't mind me asking, what would be the difference between the two? I mean, yes airspeeders are confined to the ground, but they would serve the same purpose as a starfighter in atmosphere.

The difference is unifying space and ground in a way that's both technically feasible and satisfies balance. Yes, the Empire generally uses TIEs for atmospheric duty - probably elusively in an offensive role - but since we have TIEs as space units, the Talon is in place for atmo.

If you mean in-universe, then airspeeders (specifically, aerofighters, like the Talon I or V-wing) are generally cheaper, unshielded, have tougher hulls, worse powerplants, weaker energy weapons, and more of an aerodynamic frame compared to starfighters.
