Hello, I came across this mod just about a week or so ago and actually purchased the EAW Gold pack just to play this mod as it sounded so great (I had the original EAW on CD but couldnt find the FOC Cd to buy standalone locally). I have a i7 2.7GHz cpu with 8GB Ram and a NVIDIA NVS 4200M graphics card running Win 7 64bit.

I am able to get the Phoeniz Rising mod v1.1 to work, as I bought the Gold pack through Steam, and it loads up great. When trying to play any GC campaign the game is extremely slow to the point where it is unplayable. I did some searching the forums and came across the Slim campaign Pack and have installed that. The Galacatic campaign now runs much smoother, although I do have an issue with Carida starting as a pirate planet even though it shows Imperial. While I have a smoother campaign map the tactical battles are very very laggy. Perhaps its b/c of all the ships/fighters but was wondering if I may have installed something incorrectly.

I see so many different fix it packs or mini bug fix items, Ghosts Land Pack, Slim campaign pack etc... but really not sure exactly what I should install and in what order. I'm never sure if v1.1 has everything included or do I need to apply some fixes. I also see much discussion regarding v1.2 or a beta v1.2 but have not found that to try out either.

Could someone point me in the right direction so I can start over and try the latest version of Phoenix Rising (that is released) with all the appropriate bug fixes applied, Thanks

Also, let me say this mod is incredible. The research options, the amount of ships, the heroes, I can't wait for this v1.2 with the manual so I know how to play this as it looks like a great Star Wars strategy game.

The first link is to the 1.1.1 download, which is the base mod. The second link is to the Unofficial 1.1.2 Bugfix, which while unofficial fixes a ton of bugs in PR. It is best to copy your PR folder and then install the 1.1.2 bugfix into the new one.

As to tactical lag, I'm assuming you're using a laptop video card since it has "M" in the name. I doubt you're going to get much performance out of an nVidia 4200M, especially since I can't even find it on this list. You really shouldn't be trying to game on that video card. I think that if you plan on doing much gaming you should buy a dedicated desktop PC for it.

Thanks Sparda for the quick reply.

I will download v1.1 again and then also apply this unofficial bug fix v1.1.2. So it seems no need for me to download the slim campaign map then as hopefully the GC's wont be laggy as before.

Your right am playing on a laptop however here is the link for the Nvidia NVS 4200M card. Its a 1GB graphics card so hopefully it doesnt suck. Will try this out and see what affect it has on playing the mod.

Unfortunately your video card is business class, so it simply isn't as fast as one made for gaming. Your graphics settings may also be higher than they should, and your card does that new Optimus thing, so you could try disabling that since all power-saving features under-clock hardware.

If you have nVidia optimus, it DOES NOT recognise Empire at War so you need to add it to the list of applications. Add swfoc.exe to that and it should work much smoother. I expect the business class card should cope without too much difficulty considering what processor you have to back it up.

Phoenix Rising, head of mapping. Thanks to everyone who got us to the position below!

Thanks Bob, once I added it to the graphics card the game runs so much smoother, which is odd as in my Bios I believe it is set to use the graphics card at all times and not Optimus mode, perhaps a bios update reset it. Either way it runs so much smoother, appreciate everyones help, I even downloaded the v1.1.1 and unofficial bug fixes. Now to post over inthe general forum with some other gameplay questions I have.

Again thanks for all the assistance guys really appreciate it.

It seems I'm not totally out of the woods yet. Still using the v1.1 with the unofficial bug fix v1.1.2 suggested below (and no other mods) the first couple of weeks in Core Worlds as the Empire are fine. I've noticed that perhaps around week 20 (im currently in week 33) its been very laggy on the campaign map. I used to be able to scroll right and left on the GC map smoothly but now it stutters all over the place.

In the actual space battles they are still very smooth which is great. I have been attacked at coruscant by a rebel fleet with about 50-60 Space Tugs and some cap ships. The Rebs still look to have only 3 planets while I have 4 total. Not sure what I can do to reduce the GC map lag. Tried lowering graphics to bare minimum but no joy there.

I see many posts on lag and even about the space tug issue, should I download some other type of minimod on top of the v1.1 and the unofficial v1.1.2 patch to run it smoother.

I have also seen something about this Operation Shadowhand campain apparently being less laggy, not sure why that would be the case as I believe it has more planets. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Not terribly unusual, really. It's the number of units in play combined with FoC's poorly optimized engine. Try attacking the AI and reducing their numbers a bit.

Should be a little better in 1.2 when it released.

<DevXen> Today I was at the store and saw a Darth Vader action figure that said "Choking Hazard." It was great.

Looks like I'm going to give that a try although based on the lag, I know I dont have enough forces to thin that many planets yet.

Wondering if there is a minimod, perhaps slim campaign (just not sure it works with the unofficial v1.1.2 patch or playing a diff campaign might be better. Like everyone else I eagerly await the v1.2 update.

Thanks for the reply.
