it's turning out to be a bad year for us Star Wars fans. we've lost another great man connected to this great saga, in addition to the other c--p going on. sure, George Lucas came up with the general idea of Star Wars, but this was the man who turned an idea into an entire Universe from which so many of us have found at least some measure of joy and happiness. Agreed. One of the flaws of the prequel trilogy was that it wasn't designed by McQuarrie. Check out Ralltiir for his namesake though in v1.2.
You can lay a lot of valid criticism on the prequels, but I don't think production design is one of them. Everything looked smoother and less military in TPM, and then got more and more dirty and greeblified as the films went on, reflecting war-production design thinking. By the time of ANH, everything is supposed to look debased and unrefined. Obi-Wan pretty much tells Luke that.

I think I was generalizing my feelings from when I saw TPM for the first time. Even in 3D, I'm still not really sold on the look of most of the hardware in that film. I don't disagree on the transition over time; I just think some of the choices seem out of place, especially when the EU establishes ships from the original trilogy as being quite old. I shouldn't say the same for RotS.

We don't really see much in the first movie besides wealthy Naboo. Some Tatooine, and that's run down as ever.

<DevXen> Today I was at the store and saw a Darth Vader action figure that said "Choking Hazard." It was great.
