yes, hi, some modding friends of mine have asked me "how do we get the AI to actually build stuff on Easy"?

Idk was my typical answer, i havent looked at the AI yet. Looking is all i go to do. there isn't much there. it's appearantly hidden :)

But, seriously, how had would it be to say get the easy AI to build the station up to level 3 at least in 5 mnutes of skirmish play? why does it do nothing at all?

Also, why doesn't it build much of anything for defense of a planet in GC either. I usually play a defensive game as the rebellion.. in other words.. i research everything, then i build fleets and start taking over the gal.. it's relaxing to me and i'm not 15-20 anymore lol.

Any insight as to why the AI seems to just sit there on easy would be most helpful

thanks,

Mike

It took PR about 7 months of screaming, maddening, insanity to answer that question. He wrote the AI code and GC just died.

Test #1: Didn't fix it.
Test #2: Didn't fix it.

Test #547: Interesting, hey let's try.... Nope. Didn't work.
Test #548....

repeat ad nauseam for 7 months.

Insanely hard.

I'd rather fly Death Star runs in a Headhunter.

Wait for v1.2. :themenace:

oh ok, so after you guys release 1.2 and the AI is better, then you would be able to share your what worked with the rest of the modders out here who want the AI to actually work with their respective mods? or is that just a pipe dream.

Your kidding me.... 500+ tests to see if you could get the damn AI to function correctly??? that sux :( I'm very glad for your staying with it though :)

I don't know if it was 500... it might as well have been. Yeah, I'll write a tutorial or something.

thank you very very much for your replies. i'm certain you are a very busy person.

Thanks also for the proposed Tutorial :)

I know it's some-what a lot to ask about trying to learn how to get the darn AI to function on easy. It seems a small thing to do, but it's not obviously.

I remember you guys mentioned creating your own AI back in February of last year. But it really took that many tries?

I mean, how do you guys know if the AI wasn't working? Did the game just not do anything?

Easiest way to tell if it wasn't working was to check the droid advisor spending graph.

so then is it pretty much impossible for regular mod makers for the Foc game to get the AI to work like it should on the easy setting for their mods? I mean, mostly their mods are cosmetic/ visual changes anyways.

Should work as well as the vanilla AI does if there aren't significant gameplay changes.

i know this might be a weird question, but could you possibly expand on what you term as "significant gameplay changes? I think most young modders just change up what we visually see and the shield/hull and weapon strengths. Maybe some changes to how the weapons appear on the screen.

I know some mess with the gui, but from what i've heard, those are options already in place in the game as possible options.

Thaqnks again for all your replies to questions concerning mods that are not your. I really really appreciate it.

Well, it depends on how much deviation you're willing to tolerate. There should be no issue with swapping out a ship model and editing its stats, assuming you're keeping them relatively in-line with vanilla (significant outliers will throw off the AI). The same is true for adding new ships. The AI has no GUI, so you can do whatever you want to that. You'll start to have problems if you add new structures and want the AI to be able to know when to build them. Otherwise, just any new rule that wasn't in vanilla. For us, it'd be async research, buildable heroes, the star base expansion, even raid composition.
