I cannot load any skirmish game without the system crashing and getting an error message asking if I want to fill an error report

Load/save function will not work until Ares fix that, is a known problem, for the next release those buttons will be disabled until they fix the issue (don't expect it in the short term).
C&C:Reloaded -> 5 different armies: GDI, Nod, Allies, Soviets & Yuri... & converted TS Terrain!!

is there anything we could do to help with the save load function? missing that in the skirmish games

No, is something too complex that would need to be fixed in every Ares release & re-test all the parts for possible regressions. It will be done in a future... not soon.
For that reason I suggested disable those buttons instead of leave then active (& crashable) :-P
