i was modifying some of the capital ship xml's, just changing some of the compliments, and now apparently the game wont start. it gives me an 'exception error'
thoughts?

I suggest getting notepad++, then get the XML Tools plugin. It helps pinpoint syntax errors.

ran through all the files i edited. found 2 errors in the syntax. ironically, i put T_65C_Starfighter.... instead of T_65C_X_wing_Starfighter.
still isnt workin.

hmm. this is the message i get now. the 3 windows to the right, if you cant see are a white screen where the game is supposed to be, the EXCEPTION message, and something about resetting my direct3d device

any additional thoughts?

Update/reset the latest drivers on your graphic card. If that doesn't work, where do you put your modified XMLs? In a folder or back into the meg file? If it's the former pull out all your files from the XML folder then start the game. If this works, reintroduce them separately in said folder (you could do it my small batches if you edited many). Start your game after each insertion, when it crashes then you located the problem. That technique will work IF you didn't mess around in any vital XMLs located in the meg file i.e. if you edited a file that the game absolutely needs and put it back in the meg, then you'll probably need to uninstall PR and reinstall it.

Just the ones you modified. The others shouldn't be a concern. If for any reason the non modified files got corrupted (frankly this never happened to me), then uninstall and reinstall. In any case keep your modified XMLs in another place and reintroduce them like I mentioned in my previous post. It may be a long process but not as long as remodding them all. :wink_new:

P.S. I take it that reinstalling the latest drivers on your video card didn't work?

found it. thanks for the help.
lol. made sure all drivers were and are up to date, ran windows update (turns out i hadnt run it in 9 months, lol), and at the end of it all, you know what it was?
i was modifying Garven Dreis' squadron from B-model to C-model X-wings, and i forgot to change 1 letter. 1 damn letter that made the game just not work.

I know exactly how you feel, I had to learn that same lesson the hard way. :scars: But it really is just a matter of not modifying too much files at once. It is a long process but oh! so gratifying.

In any case you're now a better modder for it! ;)

Yup, that's modding and campaign design.

I have keep name integrity across all the campaigns and keep pace with all the changes as the mod moves onwards.

I have separate xml files with all the standard names in them, one for each faction, listing upgrades by timeline and unit, so I can copy and paste correctly named files into campaigns.

And yes - my template files are quite lengthy.

wow, its been a while.

so i was modding more compliments, and when i looked in the starting planets folder, i noticed that the Alliance Venator 1s were entirely missing from the game. nowhere to be found.

i gave them the same modifications as i gave the other ships i modified, in that only the compliment was changed

I think this was the most relevant place to post about whats going on with my current situation. Since I was unable to post a new topic about my issue, ill go ahead and place it here for anyone who has sometime to pick over it.

Essentially im getting a galactic space freeze/ lock up. No errors or anything, just results with me having to CLT, ALt, Delete out and process kill.

Im gonna go ahead and list my specs so we can get that out of the way.

Windows 7 Ult 64 bit
Amd 6350 six core. OC 4600 MHz, Turbo 5 k mhz
Msi R7 370 gaming 2G 
Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 Mobo 
8Gb Ram

I have the Gold edition through steam and of course PR V1.2. Also to note I was having issues getting a proper file download from moddb so I was playing around with V1.1 for a day or two and had the same issue as I am with V1.2 but under different circumstances.

so on with more details. Specifically ive done a little xml modding with your time slaved xml files. your team has put in some serious hours writing these files and im sure I haven't really even seen the tip of the ice burg here. its amazing really.

At any rate for both V 1.1 and 1.2 ive removed all traces of pirates from the campaign sandbox galaxy far far away. In addition to that I have also decided to remove some planets and starting forces for both empire and rebel sides. also to note ive also only done this to the empire side of the sandbox. Also added about 2 mil to starting cash to each side, which I noticed was reduced to 1 mil a few seconds into the match, not concerned about this, im sure its an over ride somewhere.

Ill admit I was quite happy with the result of what I had done because with 1.2 I had a pretty constant 60 fps, I think that was due in light to the fact that it seems you have kept the ai from running units needlessly around the universe. That's one of the reasons I would appear to have noticed this compared to legacy ai versions.

The only other edit I had was for the executor object files and those 2 lines were for tie advanced and defender spawn squadrons.

But yea pretty much got to week 59 was really smooth had a big fight the Ai brought a ton of space units fleet composition was very nice. result was a win for me. Then is crash about 3 green bars after that. Pretty crazy really. I guess im just wondering if anyone thinks it might be my xml edits.

Also lastly not sure about which directory precisely the 2gb patch fix goes in. as I see it could go in two places, corruptions directory or PRS mod directory. Thanks for reading, im going to keep trial and erroring here.

Ok never mind on answering this because I decided to go ahead and start doing some work on outer rim. It seems like its what ive read in the other posts about galactic fleet size most likely or game saves maybe. Not entirely sure either way as ive done trial and error testing for both cases and their isn't really a definitive answer either way. Just gonna work with a different map and see what the results might yield.

Something on topic I would appreciate an answer too is, why have some of or most of the ships not come with galactic pop values over 0? Not to be rude but is this something intended. Or do I have an issue with my files somewhere. I don't mind making the changes I was just curious.

Also someone mentioned in another post, http://forums.revora...hat-unplayable/ about scenario file somewhere that can be used to remove units. Can I get a location on that, I have not seen it in config.meg unless its named something else. not that I see much need to change up the current ai fleet comp but I would not mind making some changes to that, thank you PR team.

Another update : got done making a outer rim campaign. Same issue as before, the galactic map wants to freeze and lock up for some reason, was in week 35 this time, so a little quicker then FFG campaign. I haven't seen another topic with the same issue so Im wondering if its my hardware software, no other issues with any other games though, its deff frustrating because I have no idea how to isolate it.

I guess if there was anything else that is always the same about this lock up is it happens about 90 percent of the time 15 seconds after a loaded game. Although it seems I can push it back a couple of weeks sometimes if I save again before the lockup. Im pretty sure ive seen it happen after I sometimes move a unit to another planet.

I guess another thing I should mention is the game is only using about 600 k memory according to process manager. Not sure if this would be relevant or not.

You forget something important. You must also install the “Patch 64 bit RAM” for the mod version 1.2.

Because you have Windows 7, 64 bit version. If you don’t install this patch, then the mod game works not fine. And you become lots of problems with this game.  :whatoa:
I don’t know why you installed the mod version 1.1., because that was a bad idea to install. I think that this not works in Windows 7, 64 bit version.  :thumbsdownsmiley:

I also play this mod V 1.2 in Steam and works fine. Good luck and I hope that the problem is solved with this patch.  :thumbsuphappy:

I had gotten the V1.1 because I was having issues downloading 1.2 from moddb, it wasn't until I tried to get it from filefront that I got a good download. Partially I was just being lazy and wanted to play also which is why I got 1.1 too.

I will go ahead and reinstall the patch buddy haha, maybe that's the problem, but I think its an issue with some of the changes I am making to xmls. Because I wasn't sure if I was installing the patch correctly. But I realized I was when I was getting exception errors until I reapplied it. That or a software issue with my drivers. Although im pretty confidant my crimson drivers are up to date. followed the directions for the 64 bit patch. I tested on a old save game which was having the lock up, not sure if I should have been using a fresh game or not but still locked up. gonna try a new game now, Besides the few occasional drops here and there im running at 60. Its like it hits one of the drops and doesn't recover for some reason.

Another question I had was if there was a way to lock out units that the ai can choose to build from. Id rather allow fleet comps of just larger ships which reduce the amount of units that are being created by the ai because im guessing at this point its because they are producing to much. Id like to atleast rule that out anyways.

I think it was from the same thred I posted above that someone had mentioned a 300 units max before the game engine gets sketchy, well I think there was atleast upwards to 400 + units in all the fights Ive had so far, not to mention I didn't even get into a fight on outer rim before it locked up most recently.

Its ok. I pretty much got the game to run stable now for the most part, not sure if it was the crimson hotfix from their website or the fact that I removed the executors that I gifted myself with to start the campaign. I tried to control the fleet comp by increasing the pop values for certain ships for the ai would not build them but they have an over ride so where which allows them to still construct them from the space tab, not the end of the world. Although at times im getting the same crash still haha. it just, I think its deff got something to do with having more then one executor or sovereign class ship in a fleet. I just seem to crash anytime I have more then two of the same massive sized ship in a fleet, because the one time I have played the rebel campaign I did not have a single white screen lock up. very strange indeed.

Strange, very strange..  :whatoa:  The problem isn’t solved. I can’t follow it anymore. Maybe you must the mod version 1.2 remove it with the “uninstall.exe” of this mod. And do the installation again.  :thumbsuphappy:
If it crash again then perhaps is a bug in the game (?!). :whatoa:
Maybe someone of the Phoenix Rising Team has an answer, about this problem. :huh:
