We here at From Book to Game are happy to announce the very first download of From Book to Game. This "Teaser" has the following in it:
  • Dunedain faction
  • New Maps
  • Launcher
  • New Skins
  • And a few new Models
The menu and such are not included due to technical difficulties. It also does not have an installer.

In about 3-4 days we should have another download up with the full beta which will include:
  • Dunedain faction at a very stable state (including spellbook)
  • New Menu
  • New Shellmap
  • New Maps
  • Launcher
  • New Skins
  • And a few new Models (including some unseen models and skins completely reworked)
Here is the full reason for the models and such we promised and why they are not released today:

"Due to technical difficulties and time differences, the time prior to expected release was chaotic, and due to your anticipation, we've decided to release it with all the code tonight, and then in a couple of days with all the new models. We're truly sorry about the complications and bathos, but hopefully in only three or four days, you'll have a complete BETA."

----------

Also, we have been having a few troubles amongst the team so please be patient. We were not expecting trouble to arise but nonetheless it did. We are all very sorry. Within the next week we will have our real first beta out.

So, after all of that i hope you can sit tight for a few days and wait for the real beta. The models and skins in this small teaser are NOT the final ones so please be aware of that.

Thanks,

-{IP}Apollo and the FB2G Modding Team

1. ModDB usually takes a few hours to authorize mod downloads, so we can't download it yet. It might be better to wait with the newspost next time, until the download actually works.
2. If it's completely ready in a few days, why not just wait? I cannot see the reason for a teaser.. Teasers are usually for trailers, or pictures. How many teaser mods\games have you played in your life? You don't give a demo for the beta :p
3. Complications happen, and they set you back. Let people know that you release it October 23rd, unless something goes wrong.

I guess the only thing that makes it okay is that you're not providing an installer, so it's only a .big I assume. If it's big, you're practically wasting people's time (despite modern day's common connection speed).
And is the Dunedain faction not stable in this teaser? Because if people mistake it for the beta, and are met with a buggy release, they won't enjoy it as much as they should.

Ah well see Unknown said an exact date 2 weeks ago on ModDB, the deadline was yesterday and well ModDB people got a little bit unhappy when we make them wait haha. And actually for this its just a folder. for the real release in the next few days it will be a .big

I said stable for one and not stable for the other because i'm sure while i'm testing over the next few days ill find a small bug or two. (like a description that's wrong. etc...)

So, we are mostly doing this "demo" to make the ModDB people happy. and i couldn't edit unknowns post in time due to issues..

I would not make people download what is essentially the same file twice within a few days. It's a far better decision to just make a post saying there's been a delay and that the mod will be ready soon. You're getting pressured into bad press (pun intended) by silly moddb folks.

Edit: I downloaded it. Why no .big file? Why?

Its not that hard to create a .BIG file... But yea you could've just told em the date was moved, sure they'd be disappointing, but look at what ur giving them now... a folder... which is at least twice the size that it has to be :xd:
And next time stick to the rule of not announcing anything like this to the public unless you are certain you can deliver, you guys had way too much work left when you announced it 2 weeks ago :p

I know. Not my choice. Unknown comes back and says beta in 2 weeks and then leaves and comes back on the day its suppose to be released so sorry but that part is not my fault.. Its just a demo. not a big deal give them something to play with. haha

... Yup. I said most of that. Problem: Unknown announced a release on October 22. Yeah, I think next proper release, we'll try to not do this.

Why do you hate .big files? You only really have to compile one of them for the release, you can work with folders just fine while developing. Or so I'm told. And just because Unknown says something doesn't mean you have to do it. If it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out. Seriously, I'd get rid of this download before too many people start fucking up the installation and crying murder.

TBH, the folder method was what got me interested in modding, and helped me find this place, when I'd never even heard of FinalBig.
But back on topic...

Well, I think what Apollo was trying to say was *glares at Apollo* that we'll take it into consideration in our further releases, since that's what we had originally planned to do.

I'll just say this... no, it's a crap mod, in all honesty, I wouldn't advise playing it. Aside, I think it's the 1.04 patch we made it for, as Thorongil's additional patches were not then known to us.
