Hello guys,

At the ferm request of mister Lauri i took a small break from work to start a new topic as it seems that i was hijacking everyone's topics around.

I am here and now to advertize my latest map who will probably be released sometime around The Hobbit first movie.

When i first started this map ...like an year ago ... i cold it Dwarrowdelf , but now that i came back to the maping communities it seems that there are alot of other Dwarrowdelfs around ( i know at least 2), so then i had to change my mind about the title, but then i changed it back again :) , so who knows what is going to be called.

Small description: The map is based on the Moria map in the bfme 1 campaign so like 80 % of it's surface will be inside Moria.
The map size is the bigest the game offerd me (600x600 if i remember right) and i could of used a little bit more, as i had to squeez some areas to make room for...more rooms.
The plot is to bring The Fellowship from Rivendell to Lorien without getting any one of them killed.
You have 3 options Caradhras, Moria, The Gap of Rohan (that will bring you through Isengard and then Fangorn
I spent 7 months doing it untill now (with a break of almost 6 months) so you'll have a lot of cool stuff, some cinematics, see some lotr familiar places, bonus missions ecc
The map is now finished but i still need time to test it for bugs, add more objects and change things if (when) other ideas come to my mind

I would also wanna make a trailer before i release it.

Released : http://forums.revora...wdelf-released/

See also this topic : http://www.gamerepla...howtopic=905481

Remember i am only giving you small pieces just to taste the feel of the map. A lot of stuff has been left out of this screenshots cause i don't wanna spoil the fun.
Enjoy

small bonus mission idea:
a couple of days ago i created some of Galadriel's gifts to the fellowship in the shape of new skills to the heroes when they meet the Lady of Light. But as your mission in the map ends at Lorien you cannot see much of this skills in action. Now i am thinking i would verry much like to see The Bow of the Ghaladrim (Galadriel's gift to Legolas) in action (i've seen it but... i wanna see it in the map too). I won't describe this skill and don't expect some over the top visual effect, just a deadly weapon. So i wanna make this small bonus mision where Legolas goes against.. 100? 200? goblins? what do you say?

I was thinking more like 1000

Get a glimps of the effect of the new skill :

Err, you might wanna change the name of the topic into something more unique than "new map"

A better topic name would be nice. Try 'The Fellowship: The New Kickass Story Map'. Or maybe just 'Kickass'. :D

Seriously though, the map does look really nice. A tad more detail might be nice, eyecandy is always appreciated.

edit: lol you actually did it! :thumbsupxd: . It does look better though, doesn't it?

happy ? ;). When it comes to details .. i was the one to claim this is the most detailed map ever, but now that more of you tell me you want more detail i will give it another hand. This will delay a bit the release but who cares. Thanks for the apreciation

You hardly have bushes or other shrubbery, you don't have anything but two plants to make the shoreline of Amon Hen natural, stuff like that. The little details that aren't noticed when they're there, but when they're not there, you feel that something is missing. A very good example is the top of the mountain with the ruins you have in picture 4. There aren't rocks or rubble aside from the ruins themselves, and there aren't anything growing wild there. There probably should be, depending on how high above the water it is of course.

Take a quick look through the pictures here and you might know what I'm getting at.

The old hard to please Lauri :). I didn't start mapping yesterday, i know what shrubbery means. But i have encountered a bug : When i started this map i putted tons of trees and rocks and stuff on it , but after a while i realized the game would change the model of my trees. How to explain ... i placed let's say ... a tree from Lorien and the game would change it's model into one from Mordor (in the game and even in the map editor). So after some testing i figured it was because i had too many trees placed on the map!. If you do too a test on an empty map and you put many many trees (different kinds) you will see the game changes their models or even will start hiding some from you (not showing it at all).
Because this map is so large i had to reduce the number of shrubbery to avoid this bugs (as all of my objects are placed and scaled manually and separately) and i tried to have more detail by textures.
I am just curious Lauri , the biggest of your maps how many objects does it have?
However as i promised i will give it another hand.
I would love to be able to put even more trees and stuff as i would love to have more space, but i tell you it can't be done...

I don't map. And I know there's a limit to props and trees in maps. You have to prioritize shrubbery. Make them count.
Then again, your map is gigantic, and not really suited for that many details. So if I were you, I wouldn't hold back the release of the map just for the sake of trying to add more details. They can come last, after all the mapping and scripting is done. If you're satisfied, release it. If you're not, then don't. It's that simple.

Another problem you might hit is a passability limit.
I had that issue happen often when I was working Trials of Malvegil.

When you use too many passability points aka too many cliffs.
It happens quite easily for large maps.

The problem you have is not the amount of trees, but you have too many kinds of them. I don't remember the limit but if you see that a tree gets another model when placing another tree you should remove one kind ;).

That also happens when the model is missing from the tree.

If i remember right (it's been almost a year) i did Rivendell and then i did Fangorn which is on the other side of the map. Then when i return to Rivendell ... surprise! some trees were from Fangorn.

A wak file is used to add waves on water in BFME1, there is a tutorial on how to use it on the3rdage: http://www.the3rdage...tem-523?addview
