Lately Ive been on a kick with updating my maps in the realm of Gondor. I always feel like I sell myself short in order to push out the map rather than really push for what I envisioned. Ive been watching way too much 3rd age total war lately and one thing I really enjoyed is the Osgiliath map in that mod, it really feels like its in Gondor, has its architecture etc....In my original map I used the Cirith ungol walls to surround the city. I ended up with the city being "off center" of the map (which bothers me) and these squarish walls that dont say "Gondor" to me at all. Ive seen a few hand drawn maps of osgiliath that have "half moon" shaped walls surrounding the city on either side of the Anduin river, while its not film accurate it does make sense to me,
With the above outer wall in mind, Ive gone through and begun to change the walls to a destroyed version using ruined pieces. Ive centered the walls appropriately and theres now land on either side (north and south) with which to land troops to perform flanking and attacking of resource buildings built outside the city behind your actual fortress locations. one thing that concerns me is object count. since Im already at 5100+ and I wanna remove all the premade buildings in favor of placing ore of the created ruined ones.
Here is the west bank of Osgiliath in progress
