Who here is hyped for the sequel to the Rome Total War game ?

I pretty much can't wait for it ! I'll get it when I can though, I'm not one with a good amount of money in my pocket these days. But there is some footage of the Pre-Alpha Game-play here on the Tetoburg Forest mission  : ( the actual footage starts 30 secs into the video I believe)

I thought is was interesting, didn't like the arrow streaks at all so I hope they change that. The UI also looks a bit bulky and takes a bit to much space from the battle. But the new "Camera System" may be something to look foward to. I Also heard they're working on a brand new Facial Expression system so when units are scared or tired they look, talk, and fight with a clearly, frightened expression and attitude and so on, something you can sort of see in the video. So far we know there will be 8 playable factions for the Campaign (Rome, Carthage, Macedon, Iceni, Arveni, Suebi, Parthia, and Egypt), but the Campaign map will hold around 117 other factions as well ! So I'll be looking forward to a teaser for the Campaign XP. What are your thoughts on the game-play video ?

I can't wait. Rome was my favourite time covered by the series so this, with the incredible advancements of the newer games, is gonna be something special.

Yeah it does look fantastic, if a little 'soft'. I think mostly the new diplomacy system since Empire and co-op campaign will be the big thing for me... and now with amphibious assaults, massive cities and apparently a subfaction system of sorts (related to families) it should prove to be an immense game. Can't wait to see the campaign map which is supposed to 'massive', covering more of the east. I was kinda confused when 3 factions turned out to be barbarians within the same corner of the map, but I'm sure they know what they're doing. And hopefully some neat faction DLC.

Also in regards to the video I really like the fluidity of the units this time round, they don't seem like the solid rectangles they used to be, but more like lots of individuals moving together. Hopefully some of these more interesting maps (although this one is obviously designed specifically for the scenario) appear in the main game. The environment would be so incredibly epic, going from the winding forests of Germania to the massive Greek cities to the deserts of Egypt. If they include more obviously faction/culture specific structures and what not in battles and sieges it would really bump up the atmosphere. So barbarian wooden villages and defences would be completely different to the epic walls of Alexandria with Egyptian shrines and tombs, instead of playing more or less the same as they did in the original. And then if you decide to exterminate the city and rebuild it it should look Romanised!

EDIT: Well looks like Pontus are gonna be added as a FREE DLC package available on the first day of release, CA are pretty awesome.

Wow. I loved the first game, and before now had heard about Rome 2, but never got around to look into it. Wow.

Pontus, one of my biggest obstacles when moving to the East. Their horse archer (and/or chariots) with the phalanx combo usually kept me from auto resolving all the time :p. They'll hopefully be a great thing to see when the DLC comes out !

I think they've learnt all the mistakes they've made and I honestly say that in hope but by looking at how the gameplay works it seems as though they have listened to the community, really can't wait!

I remain very optomistic about this one. Rome and Medieval have always been the "big" TW titles, they did a great job revamping the second Medieval, and I hope they do Rome Justice. I fear however, there will be limited modding ability. I really want to see a remade Greece: Total war :p Some of the Greek mods for Rome 1 were bloody fantastic. (Not that Rome by itself isn't also epic.)

I'm sure after the Shogun 2 dev kit they will continue to do so as best they can. I think they hosted a meeting with some of the 'top' modders and community leaders to discuss how they could better support the modding community, so things are always looking up. Something in conjunction with Steam workshop that doesn't interfere with their precious DLC would be best for all I suppose.

The games always look cool but I never got into the gameplay for Total War to me it's always been awkward.

I liked the campaign thing in the first Medieval game even though I auto resolved every battle it was still fun.

Sounds like my problems with it, auto-resolve was very inefficient and not every battle was enjoyable/repetetive maps. Then again I only played shogun 2 for a few hours. I think Crusader Kings 2 hit closer to home for me.

At the start auto resolve would lose me every battle but if you have the numbers and manage your troops well enough you can almost every battle.

Seems Rome 2 Total War is going to have yet another bonus pack thingy :

http://wiki.totalwar.com/w/Factions

Athens, Epirus, and Sparta will be usable with the "Greek States Culture Pack" available if you Pre-Order.
