I guess I'm gonna decide this when I see them in game... But it's leaning towards spears only for phalanx horde and a mix of mattocks and axes for the Guardians, with axe for BC. For helmets, yeah perhaps we'll only have the BC be helmetless.

I think they will come with HA as a pre-req... meaning you have to build the armory and get the tech before you can even get them =)

Thats a good idea, I like how different that is from the other faction tech structure.

Here's a great reference as to the armor and weapons of the Erebor Guard...

Perhaps we should set them up as 3 (4) different versions after all?
- Guardians with mattocks

- Soldiers, with swords & shield 

- Phalanx, with spears 

and BCs with axes and no helmets, and thus skipping the LUA randomization completely as they do look very uniform on screen. They even have the same beard color as far as I can see, lol. This would make Erebor units something like Gondor counterparts, just like Lauri said, while the Iron HIlls units would be as randomized as the Rohan units for men, using LUA.

 

To avoid unit spamming, we could limit the Guardians somewhat and have them be stronger in attack than swordsmen, but with lesser defence as they dont use shields...

Sounds great to me. The guardians should be a shock troop of some sort. Whenever I see units wielding hammers the first thing I think is that they probably hit hard.

Ranged troops will be Iron Hills archers only, other than siege off course and the Battle Wagons carrying Axe Throwers and the elite Dale Archers (that are also summons).
