We're getting funds to hire a programmer work full-time in order to speed things up for the game.

 

I'm on their team, BTW, as a 3d artist.

Oh, you're working on it?  Interesting.  Instead of asking for money, it would be great if you could offer jobs.  We got modelers, artists and extremely hansom voice actors... all we ask for is 100% of the profits.

It's open-source. We're all vollunteers. We are asking money only for a full-time programmer, to speed things up.

I've been offered to work on 0.A.D, Pas. They are already forthcoming and open, and it is easy to apply in their forums (or so it was two years ago). 

 

I haven't got any cash to spend, but it warms my very soul to see you guys are already getting funds. Keep it up.

all i hope, is that its not boring like age of empires.
meaning, copy/paste factions and if game play stretches out for hours... I hope its at least fun instead of a sigh sitting session

Yeah. I'm not active as I once was, due to Med School, but I'm still there, to help spread the news.

 

@DIGI: I'm sorry, but Age of Empires was never boring, at least not when played online with your friends. Sure it had a lot of limitations, but the amount of tactics and stuff, and the fact that people still play that game is amazing. But yeah, 0ad has a gameplay of its own, it merges elements from AoE, EE, RoTN, and so on.

 

@Irene: And everything is CCBYSA3.0, which means you can just grab whatever you want I did the Roman Merch Ship and revamped the greek fortress along with some Rocks.

 

@Mathjjs: Yeah. And now we're even open, if you want to contribute, at least in the Art Dept, just read over the public forums and grab a task, it can be small or big. As for programmers, the same stuff, but they use trac to keep things more organized.

Know what?  I'm going to sign up for some voice acting.  ... Is there need for voice acting?  Ooooh! I can be like a narrator dude.  Better than Lennard Nemoy, that's for sure.  QUESTION- Where does one sign up?

 

I like how the game looks so far.  Except for the hud.  It's quite large and hideous thus far.

I'll sit in a corner and cry for days if they turn me down.  Everyone should head over there and lie to them about how good of a voice actor I am.  Or tell the truth... which is still giving me more credit than Lenard Nemoy, hopefully.

its funny, people use multiplayer as the basis of fun.
Back in the day, internet wasn't readily available, and most cases families had rules on when and how the internet is used, that coupled with no online socializing and not any of your friends who actually owned the game, you couldn't play multiplayer

so you had the campaign, and the campagn should be the main grunt of any game, but most of them was select a race (theme) and build mass X unit and swarm the enemy
no real strategy, real strategy is seen in card games and table top games where you have to take the advantage with what you got, set up traps and hope you don't mes up.
With the AoE Campaign its pretty simple, Farm, build walls, bottle neck enemy and build massive army. Almost like a sandbox every time.
and no matter what race you picked, it didn't really change anything up

an example would be Starcraft, that game, each race has its core units, but each one plays differently, Spam, aggressive and careful.

AoE on the other hand is pick X faction from 26+ and hope your more aggressive then the other person
and with that, you get an over crowding of choices from having too many factions.
ofc there are neurotic people who like to learn each faction and would defend it saying its different because one faction has spears and another  has lances... its to similar and is only a minor discrepancy

There is more strategy in SimCity games then the old AoE. more doesn't mean better.

I will trial the game and get back to you if the factions are very unique (but I doubt it).

I'm in it for the maps, however.

Dude AoE was so epic that they made 26+ factions ballanced. I mean, if you try to do that with C&C, Starcraft, it gets annoying, but not with AoE.

 

AoE was not all about uniqueness and graphics. It was about strategy. And a lot of micro and macro manageament. Seriously You don't have to go MP to see that, however when you go, you can see that, since AI is, as always, predictable.

 

Anyways, please share your impressions about 0ad. Maybe we could even setup some matches here

It could be fun.

 

(Warning 0ad AI is not very good and can lag the game, since it's an Alpha.)
