When I try to install T3Aonline(1.06), I get an immediate error message that reads "The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed.  Contact your support personel for assistance."  This seems to be identical to the issue descibed earlier in this thread by Arrowwind.

Assuming this was a windows problem, I have already done all the suggestions offered by Microsoft to fix the installer, but the problem persists.  I also seem to be able to install other programs, which makes me this is specific to T3Aonline.

This is how it happened:

I had BFME installed and patched to 1.05.

I then downloaded 1.06 and installed it successfully.

Played a few games and decided to go back to 1.03 to watch some old replays (to help me remember how to play).

Uninstalled BFME (perhaps I should have somehow removed t3a first?).

Reinstalled bfme and patched to 1.03, works fine.

Patched to 1.05 and then tried to install T3A again.  Now T3A won't install, gives me error message listed above.

I just want to get back to 1.06 again so I can play online.  Any suggestions?

I have already tried cleaning the registry with  Ccleaner, in addition to a lot of Windows fixes for the Windows installer.

Thanks in advance!

To change back to patch 1.03 you simply have to move the 105.big and 106.big files out of your installation directory and use the original game.dat of 1.03.

Have you tried to uninstall the T3A launcher with the Windows programs utilities and did you try to run the installer as admin?

Question from a developer point of view... how exactly does this work? Do you edit the exe file? Override a network dll? How do you trick the game into using your servers?

By the way, I think you guys are quite fuzzy on what "third party software" means. Your thing may not be an external tool, but it is still third party software, because it's software that is supplied by you and not by the game's official publisher.

That is true, but it uses the 'real' online ingame interface and the 'real' netcode.

Yeah. That's still not what "not third party software" means  :p

Anyway, could anyone offer some insight into the inner workings? I'm somewhat involved in the CnCNet project, which has servers for Command & Conquer 1, Red Alert 1, Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2, and which (with the new system, for the first three games) works with a combination of game hacks and a network dll override. So I'm just wondering how you guys do it :)

The launcher injects a DLL into the main game process and then hooks the gethostbyname() calls and redirects them to our server.

I am very sorry if I am bothering anyone with this, but appearntly the installation uses utilities that crash on my win8 samsung laptop.

When installing, it all goes fine, until it reaches "finishing installation" that is. When it reach this state, it crashes two utilities, which after looking in game appearently are important for making the campaign map and the battle guide work at all. (the map is stuck and after a second load up and forth the camera is stuck underneath the map, and the book never even show up)

The crashing programs are:

fwoff64.exe

fwon64.exe

it says the name of the problem is "BEX64"

If it is of interest, I downloaded from forshire.blogspot

(yes, I have no idea what information to give, just taking a wild guess :\)

I hope if someone knows the solution to this, as I do not want to risk the life of the nice looking disc with the original game, thus I want the fixes and whatnot from the one I have tried to install :)

(even google did not know anything about the issue :(, so I hoped that you people know how to handle the problem, as I have no experience with this kind of issue at all)

Have a nice day :)

I am not entirely sure I understand the problem, but forshires online edition (bfme1) does not include the campaign..

OH! Well, it did not appear at all from the information given at the forshire blog, then I understand mor eclearly why the campaign does not function properly :\

What I tried to say is that there are two programs that appearently are a part of the installation crash when finishing, though I tried to keep it as clear as possible while filling all the details I was capable of :)

Do you know of a good download for a version that do not require the disc then? I would appreciate very much :)

After you patched the game to 1.06 (which requires 1.05) you won't need any disc anymore.

I am not sur where you are going exactly, as I am not intending to use my disc ever again as a matter of fact. This is what I think you mean:

1. find a computer where you have installed your game at

2. update it to the correct version

3. copy the installation to something distributable

I have a question though:

can I make an iso out of my disc to use instead of the disc itself? I am asking because it might be a solution, because there might be DMR functionality on the disc.

To play bfme1 do the following:

  • Install the game *somehow* (any way you like).
  • Patch it to patch 1.06
  • Play the game without any disc

That means the installation is messed up. If you have a lotrbfme_backup.exe in your install folder, copy that to be lotrbfme_.exe (replace that one). Try if that works.

Hi, I have installed both v 1.03 and v 1.05 for BFME. I start the game, it works, and in the options menu it says the game is version 1.05. Now when I start the installer for T3A and v 1.06, it says v 1.05 is required first. What should I do?

It seems there is a file missing on your system. Do you use the t3a installer or the standalone installer for 1.06?

Try to install 1.03 and 1.05 again and make sure all the files are overwritten.

Well the installer file is called 'T3AOnlineBFME1_1.5.0', which I'm assuming is the T3A installer. I've reinstalled v 1.05 and there's no difference. If it helps I'm running Windows 64 bit.

Can you list the content of your installation directory?

To change back to patch 1.03 you simply have to move the 105.big and 106.big files out of your installation directory and use the original game.dat of 1.03.

Have you tried to uninstall the T3A launcher with the Windows programs utilities and did you try to run the installer as admin?

Thanks for the suggestions.

With respect to the Windows Installer problem that was preventing me from re-installing 1.06, I have been unable to solve the problem.  After uninstalling BFME the first time, the T3A launcher did not appear in my programs list, so I couldn't uninstall it directly.  I'm not sure if it was in the list prior to my uninstalling BFME, but maybe it is important to uninstall this first, for anyone looking to uninstall BFME in the future.

As for running the installer as administrator, this did not make any difference for me.

In the end I had to restore the windows partition from a backup disk image, and then T3A installed normally again.  Maybe this is just an isolated error on my system (Windows 7, btw), but I'd recommend doing a backup before trying to uninstall BFME/T3A, just in case the process damages the Windows Installer.

In any event, I am psyched to be playing some BFME again.  Thanks to the developers who have kept this game running!
