So I reformatted my computer, and my error has changed. I now get an error window with the heading 'irsetup' and the text 'Failed to open output file' when attempting to launch the installer

Well because nobody knows what causes the problem, I'm willing to give you my Beta Revision 1 dir (with RA2 and YR) in a rar as a compensation. Send a PM to me in which you tell your e-mail address so I can send you the rar. This problem needs to be investigated further though, but we don't want you to battle this issue any further, because you've suffered with it long enough.

You should also check if your anti virus program or User Account Control, or whatever else, aren't blocking the installer without your knowledge.

Hey Mevitar, thanks for trying to solve my issue! I have made sure that .Net is installed on my system, and that windows is updated to the most recent version.
The only Antivirus on my machine while trying to install was Windows Defender, which I switched off. User Account control has also been disabled along with Windows Firewall.

Mine says "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135). Click OK to terminate the application", instead of "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click OK to terminate the application". What to do? I did delete the wsock32.dll but it still doesnt work. It's when I open the Mental Omega Launcher not the actual game.

@Petya & Mevitar
Fixed! Thanks for all of the help.
I was able to fix the problem by switching from a wireless connection to a wired connection. My wireless card seems to have been acting up after reformatting my computer.

Please report here all issues with installing, launching and updating Mental Omega 3.0 that you have encountered.
Please use the other threads for reporting FATAL ERRORS & CRASHES-TO-DESKTOP // RECONNECTION ERRORS // BUGS.
MOST COMMON ISSUES SO FAR:
If you get the "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click OK to terminate the application." message when trying to start the game, remove wsock32.dll file before you do so.
If it says "BINKW32.dll is missing" then you have most likely not installed Mental Omega 3.0 in Red Alert 2 directory.
If it says "MSVCR100.dll missing" or "unable to find a version of the runtime to run this application" then you need to download and install this: http://www.microsoft...ls.aspx?id=8328 (32-bit version).
How to get 32 bit version? I can only find 82 bit, can some1 send to creeper.alan@gmail.com the 32 bit installer? Would appriciate!

I download and installed the .Net framework 2.0 and the previous error message disappeared. Now when I try to open Mental Omega Launcher, nothing happens. I have to go into run as, Current User. With "Protect my computer and data from unauthorized program activity" checked. Then the error "Unable to find a version of the runtime to run this application" comes out, with the top of the dialog box saying "MOLauncher.exe - .Net Framework Initialization Error". If I uncheck the "Protect my computer and data from unauthorized program activity" box, nothing happens again. PLZ some1 tell me how to fix this! I've been trying to play MO for a really long time, and it's starting to eating away my working and sleeping time. PLZ SOME1 HELP!

Hi,
I installed Mental Omega today and can't get past the launcher.
I started (yesterday) with a fresh install of RA2, added the wsock.dll so I could play LAN, installed Yuri's Revenge, installed Mental Omega, removed wsock.dll and now when I try to launch nothing seems to happen.

Thanks!

Just mental omega, Yuri's Revenge works fine.

Do you have Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable installed? (specifically x86 version, won't work with others)
Did you disable your anti-virus before activating MO? It might block the game if you don't add certain files to the exception list.

(I'm not reporting a problem, more a potential solution.)
So, I must say I really enjoy this mod. That said, I had one heck of a time getting it to work. All I saw every time I clicked the "Launch Mental Omega" button in the launcher was the dreaded "****FATAL**** String manager failed to initalized properly" error, and nothing I tried did anything to budge the thing. So, if anyone else still gets the same issue, here's a further possible solution: start over completely. And by that, I mean use Revo-Uninstaller to make sure that everything in and connected to the RA2 directory is gone before attempting to try again. Apparently there was something in my registry files or hidden elsewhere that was interfering.
Once that was done and everything was reinstalled, MO ran first time, without needing to turn the UAC off or use much in the way of compatability settings. Just 16bit colour mode and adminstrator mode for the launcher and nothing else. It might not even need those, but frankly I'm not attempting to fix what isn't broken.
I'm on WIndows 8.0 by the way, using a laptop with about 1.8Ghz processor speed, and I'm using an original CD release of YR and a "Sold out software" CD of RA2.
