It's a mod. Which means you install it to your Red Alert 2 folder. Not into a new one.

Not exactly a gameplay related suggestion, but I've been wanting to play with a friend on a local network without an Internet connection, which is unfortunately impossible on Windows 7 as IPX support was dropped in previous versions of Windows. I've seen a patch or two around allowing UDP/TCP to be used instead, although they use wsock32.dll which is unfortunately incompatible with the Mental Omega launcher.

 

Some kind of UDP/TCP support, or a workaround to allow wsock32.dll to be used for this purpose, would be absolutely marvellous. Cheers, love the game so far!

I believe you can go on normal LAN by simply clicking "Launch Mental Omega" in the launcher. The Wsock32.dll provided by MO should allow LAN play.

Any wsock32.dll file that's not created by CnCNet4 won't work with BR1. You might try creating the CnCNet4 one (just start the mod with 'Play on CnCNet button), then close the game, start the mod with the 'Launch Mental Omega' button and see if you can play on LAN using the newly created CnCNet4 wsock32.dll.

Hi everyone, I recently downloaded Mental Omega 3.0 and have been having trouble getting it to launch. Specifically, what happens is that...well, it doesn't really launch at all. I fire up the launcher, two processes are added to the list, then a few seconds later they're gone. It's so quick that I don't even have time to check which processes are getting added and removed, even. No error messages pop up, my computer doesn't make any odd noises, nothing. It just refuses to work. Any idea what could be causing that?

 

Still haven't found a fix for this problem. Anyone got any ideas on what might be done to fix it?

Open a command window in your MO dir, type

syringe gamemo.exe -CD -log

Then report what happened.

Followed instructions, gave Syringe the command, aaaaaaand this is what happened:

 

1) Syringe launched, but said that it cannot be run like that, and to point towards a control file.

 

2) Opening the log revealed the lpcmdline changed to 'gamemo.exe -cd -log', and the timestamps updated, but the log is still just three lines long.

 

It's so weird...feels like there's something missing, but the installation worked fine. What could be causing this?

Yup. There's 'game' for base RA2, 'gamemd' for YR, then the deep purple 'gamemo' icon in my RA2 directory. Should it be located somewhere else?

And here I thought that was something you could only do with DooM mods. Shows how much I know! Syringe still puked up a 'cannot run like that, please provide a control file' error. The log is as follows now:

 

 

[10:43:55] WinMain: lpCmdLine = "C:\WESTWOOD\RA2\gamemo.exe"
[10:43:58] WinMain: ERROR: No command line arguments given, exiting...
[10:43:58] WinMain: Exiting on failure.

 

On the plus side, at least it recognizes the gamemo?

None, actually. I've got it currently uninstalled, since I'm looking for an upgrade, so that shouldn't be an issue...I think? I do occasionally get Windows popups about whether I want to allow this or that program to share data through the firewall, but nothing else.

IIRC you have to do that with the main MO launcher.

Also done, no dice. Managed to at least verify that the processes it's supposed to launch do exist for a little while, since it didn't allow two instances of the launcher to be active at a time, but nothing more. It's reassuring to know the process is getting killed somehow instead of straight up not launching, though.

If he wouldn't have the MSVC redists, he couldn't even launch the program (certainly not .NET issue). BTW, what is your Syringe version? Just to be sure this ain't an outdated 0.6 or earlier Syringe before I go and build a debug version just for this...
