A fast food restaurant chain discovered that Japanese women don't like to eat big burgers because they are ashamed of opening their mouths wide. So they invented this clever paper holder to hide their mouths while stuffing their face like piggy men. Surprisingly, the invention was a huge success.

The company claims that consumption of big burgers among female clients jumped 213 percent when it was introduced. Don't be ashamed, women of Japan, with or without mask, women or men, the only way to eat a burger is with a wide open mouth and juice running down your face.

In a culture where slurping your soup is considered to be a compliment to the chef (from what I've heard)...I find this strange.

That's because we all have different concepts of what's bad manners. In Japan slurping noodles is the way to do it, but women opening their mouths wide open is considered unattractive because the traditionally ideal mouth there is a small one.

Personally, I can't stand people slurping soup, chewing with their mouths open, drinking making noisy gulps, or eating foods that make cracking noises but I don't mind people opening their mouths to take a big bite (as long as they chew with their mouths close) or eating with their hands.

Yeah, it seems like it's just a cultural thing. But a 213% increase in burgers, say goodbye to your petiteness and hello to obesity if those burgers are anything like the ones at McDonalds.

that 213% is the initial Boom, anything new and different is obviously going to bring in sales to their regular customers, notice how it was only referring to burger sales?

and it wasn't an overall increase, just something their consumers targeted out of curiosity to try something different, we all do it.

anyway, we can't blame those statistics because they appear to be a small time burger franchise, nothing like McDonalds over there

(check out their super size)

It's known fact Japanese women store all the fat from American food in their boobs. :p

It does look a bit creepy with the smile on it, a plain one would actually be cool if they packaged more burgers like that.

The shape looks like it would do a good job at holding the burger which I'd like to curtail my habit of squeezing too hard on burgers when I eat them.

The fact that this did well is proof enough that the Japanese are mentally dumb beyond repair. I need a hat to hide the fact my hair might look like a submerged beaver when I'm in a lake... it's just as dumb.  If I told you, "I need a mask to hide my mouth when I eat a burger" it would be a fat, dumb joke.  In Asia, that's a mild concern.  Idiots...

I shock myself on occasion; twice a time 'till Christmas.  But my burning frustration towards the Japanese is no mystery.  At least their burger shields can double as SARS masks.  Zing-dong.  That's intended as a joke, but there's a whopper-sized truth there I suppose.

you have to understand Japanese culture and how they have long portrayed 'beautiful' women, its a modesty thing in many ways.

you could stretch it as far as saying its another form of censoring that women feel they need to have to maintain their dignity, again you have to realize that that culture tends to paint a very defined look of women and Japanese women feel the pressure.

its just another extreme form of what media in cultures can do when they live by certain distinctions, IE Geisha, Bath-house servants, etc where women aren't seen to open their mouths to even talk and that type of stigma leaches out over the years and built to this 'fear' of being seen eating a large burger.

TLDR: Japan women don't open their mouths in japan, just like women don't fart in 'merica.

I don't know what's more silly: you people or this mask thing.

And Hostile, I hope you were being sarcastic towards Pasi. He's a bit behind when it comes to valuable wisdom.

Hmmm. seems like a bit of an oxymoron considering the 7/11s we have in my area.

Also, if a 7/11 is open 24/7 than why do they have locks on the doors?
