A fast food restaurant chain discovered that Japanese women don't like to eat big burgers because they are ashamed of opening their mouths wide. So they invented this clever paper holder to hide their mouths while stuffing their face like piggy men. Surprisingly, the invention was a huge success.
The company claims that consumption of big burgers among female clients jumped 213 percent when it was introduced. Don't be ashamed, women of Japan, with or without mask, women or men, the only way to eat a burger is with a wide open mouth and juice running down your face.
In a culture where slurping your soup is considered to be a compliment to the chef (from what I've heard)...I find this strange.
That's because we all have different concepts of what's bad manners. In Japan slurping noodles is the way to do it, but women opening their mouths wide open is considered unattractive because the traditionally ideal mouth there is a small one.
Personally, I can't stand people slurping soup, chewing with their mouths open, drinking making noisy gulps, or eating foods that make cracking noises but I don't mind people opening their mouths to take a big bite (as long as they chew with their mouths close) or eating with their hands.
