This has been a problem for quite some time now, unfortunately. No animations play in W3Dview, so whilst you can rotate and zoom lights and W3Ds, animations simply don't play. It's not just a case with my custom ones, but even EA's don't work in there. I'm using Windows 8 64-bit and the W3D viewer packaged with RenX, if that's any use. Also, I won't reply quickly, my Internet's out so I'm using school's.

Solution:

Run dual boot partitions on a drive, and install two OS'. One for modding purposes, one for personal use.

you know running dual partitions require a format of the HDD before right?

But he is right, what i DO recommend (if you want to bother with this) is getting a cute exHDD and enabling USB Booting, installing XP or win7 on this HDD then booting from it on startup would fix the problem

I did this for myself to run windows 8 for testing enviroments on a $35 320GB imation Apollo M100 exHDD

It's a viable and actually a nice option.

So... W3Dview is completely incompatible with Win8?

It works fine for me, actually. Try using the one that came with EA's mod SDK.

It cuts up the mesh and makes a UV map based on angle or something. I'm going to give it a try on my cliffs. =D

I'm trying to collate all other 'tools' for BFME 1 and 2, so we can get them hosted on a dedicated machine for future references

That includes faction creators, particle editors etc etc
