Space menu, and research dependency question

Is the following doable (using current ingame assets only).
I don't know the workings of this game yet, but the dependencies that control building and research seem like an area ripe for exploitation as a way to make the game more enjoyable.

Anyway the idea:

Make a copy of the trade station .xml, and call it 'menu station'.

change the cost/time to minimum

when researched, it unlocks on that planet an options menu made out of research options.

when researched, those make changes to the dependencies of other units.

Basically, for example, set it so you could swap your bombers out between torpedo/rocket/bomb ordinance, you swap which bomber version is built.

Needless to say, if doable, once perfected this could add quite a few options.

Another mod did selectable weapon systems for bombers by adding t4b 'switch to rockets' ability (alternates between missiles and torpedos).

Well this would just be swapping out the files so S3 Y-Wing with proton bombs builds instead of S3 Y-Wing with proton torpedoes, while making it possibile to switch back, and allowing for all upgrades to apply to all of the versions.

 

Thru the same method, one could upgrade the VSD past the MK1 version, but still switch back to one with a concussion missile payload, as an example.

edit: to be clear to anyone that doesn't get it, this is not meant to make the craft switchable, you just switch which loadout you want to build the craft with.
