Any way to make 'slowest' even slower on 'fast' PC?

Best Answer Martinoz, 25 February 2014 - 08:25 PM

How?  I have an Intel 2500k processor. Thank you.

Run Task manager, find Mental Omega in process list, click Properties -> "Affinity" (?) -> Turn off all Cores except 0.

I have a 4 Ghz PC and an SSD primary C: drive.  At the slowest speed the game still runs too fast. Is there a way to make it even slower?

In case you are wondering, I am trying to defeat 1 vs 4 Mental AI in skirmish mode (using the Apocalypse Map).

Thank you.

How many cores does your processor have?

Turn off the other cores in task manager (if you have more than one core).

Or if you don't want to turn off the cores then you can also get optimizer programs for free too. I had a similar issue with other games and I used an optimizer program.

Thank you Martinoz.  Slowed it down some but not slow enough. I just remembered something.  I'm going to the BIOS and slow down the CPU multiplier.  Also, I'll run IntelBurn while playing the game too. That should slow down the entire thing.

SSD problems?

I think this should be moved to the bugs section?

DID SOMEBODY SAY DERP?

Libra: The Floor is Ice!
Malver: Under the guidance of Lord Yuri.
Rahn: What are we waiting for?

...

Lord Yuri: I have taught you all well, be of one mind, one vision, proselytes!

It's not a bug, it's hardware issue.

@Switchblade16, why is this a bug?

@Martinoz, why is this a hardware issue?

All I wanted to do is slow down my PC.

I think I succeeded by:

1. Disabling 3 of 4 cores in my i5.

2. Lowering the CPU's multiplier in the BIOS

3. Running Intelburn in the background while playing the game (Prime95 should work too)

Is there another way to slowdown a PC?  By the way, I'm using Win 7, i5-2500K which was overclocked to 4-4.2 Ghz on an SSD drive, and 8 GB of memory. Thanks.

It's not a software issue simply, some games (especially these old) were made during P3-P4 with a single core CPU, and running them on Dual/Quad core CPUs produces the same issue, too fast gameplay. Ground Control 2 or Earth 2140 have got the same problem running with two cores so it's rather common hardware issue with older games.
