Since the PR team is focused more on GC, I figured we could crowdsource improvements for skirmish, and make it easier for them.

So if you have ideas, or even basic gripes, with skirmish, list them here.
Don't go too in depth, yet, lets see what we all agree on and focus on those improvements.
Provide examples of WHY you think it could be better.

Anyway here are my ideas.
1: Replace the upgrade system. The current tech tree for skirmish needs some work, if only for balance.
Example: The empire gets skiprays from the begining (which are anti-everything), but not the TIE bomber.

2: Heroes. They should have the latest model of whatever they fly, or cost much less.

3: Compliments. Personally, I think we should experiment with removing the compliments from ships in skirmish, and reducing the cost and pop cost and build time of the vessel in a proportionate manner as long as snubcraft and capitol ships are buildable at the same time. This would make capitols of more use in skirmish I think, and generally make skirmish more fun.

4: Research. In the same vein as #3, we could experiment with having research in skirmish.
Instead of researching vessels, I'd say take ALL of the vessels (and their upgrades) and separate them into era based blocs to research, so the same ship built after each research would be a newer model.
This would also make older ships more likely to suffer from attrition during the match, which keeps the player building newer ships and adds more of a motivator to research and upgrade.

Here is my basic idea of areas for research, basically each craft is sorted into a broad catagory.
The exact way to do it is up for debate, but this is my basic idea for it.

-Snubcraft- (researched at the factory station)
Fighter
Interceptor
Bomber

Heavy bomber
Interceptor
Freighter
advanced freighter

-Capitol ships- (researched at the Golan)
Corvette
Frigate
Cruiser
Heavy
Super Heavy

5- Stations. I have seen, to great effect when done right, other mods that in skirmish allowed for building of stations. (and yes bob, I realize this would mean you would have to re-do maps and move the build pads around. I think it'd be worth it).
And as PR has mostly unused station models, we may as well use them.
I would propose REMOVING the vanilla space build pad stations, and make the following buildable.
-Container yards. Easily destroyable, but each one gives you a % based boost to income. (also, for freighters/transports, prehaps also convert their skirmish income bonus into a % based boost to your base income)
-Trade Station. Instead of only giving access to heroes, have the trade station give a large percentage based bonus to your base income.
-Turrets. For now, re-use the models allready ingame, but give them better stats (and cost).
-Golan stations. Allow building them as well. It would provide hardened defense, as well as (when the AI builds them) add more of a challenge.

Now, for all of those, I would recomend re-doing the maps so the new build pads are in clusters (which may include a resource asteroid).
Arrange them by size, IE: a large build-pad would allow building a golan or trade station, around it being the smaller platforms for a container yard and turrets.

Anyway, those are my main ideas.
