So I'm thinking of getting a new graphics card. Thing is, I'm clueless. I'm looking at getting a GeForce (because I'm currently using one as well).

The one I'm looking at: MSI N650TI PE 1GD5/OC. My price range is anywhere between 100 to 200 euro's, so a 280 dollar max.

These are my specs:

Intel® Core™ i5 CPU 750 @ 2.67GHz
8.2 GB ram
Windows 8.1 64-bit

Currently using a GeForce GT 440, and I use a 1080p monitor.

Any recommendations, taking into consideration the fact that I have never installed a graphics card before? :p Basically what I want to be able to do is run the latest games properly. Currently stuck on terrible medium settings. Ugh.

I personally recommend something along the lines of this:

A 760 with good cooling. A newer card with better speeds than the 600s, but it's not an extreme card which suffers from the bugs.

EVGA usually offers some of the most power out of the box, but there are other companies like Gigabyte or Asus that will provide the same card with just as good cooling, and you might find a better deal.

And what should I look out for in terms of installation compatibility? Any risks that my case can't support it?

If you run at least a mid tower, and a standard PCI express slot motherboard, this card will fit easily. You just need to make sure you can support the power hookup. It will come with the cables to plug into the card, you just need to be able to connect those to your power supply. Though any local store that sells computer parts should have the connection cables for a very cheap price.

And as long as you have a power supply with 5-600 or more watts, then this card will run perfectly without any issues.

DO NOT USE THE NPATCH WITH THIS MOD. It will not work.
As a warning, if you post a bug report that says you're using NPatch version x
or y, your post will be deleted.

Zotac has some of the better cooling on their cards. EVGA is alright, but try to find one with dual fans if you're really worried about cooling. If you can mount a fan on the side to blow at the card, do that too. That's how I keep my solo fan GTX460 cool when it's under pressure.

He got the ACX cooler version, which is wonderful.
