So I was very skeptical about getting this game because it seemed very over-hyped. I read many early reviews that confirmed my suspicions. The game was/is to some too much like Call of Duty and not nearly as "genre defining" as it had been claimed to be. It also contains dated graphics and the game play while being unique for a FPS isn't something that hasn't been seen before.

I bit the bullet and bought it anyways because of curiosity and other friends having purchased it already.

I have played enough now to form my own opinion on the game.

For one, with this style of combat I REALLY wanted a single player campaign. The "campaign" is a series of Matchmaking multiplayer games with a standard deathmatch mode that follows a series of maps in chronological order. You play as the IMC first (the formal military faction), then repeat the same maps as the Militia.

It is alright considering it gives you fast levels and it has generally speaking newer players and a less competitive match to learn the game in, but I would have rather had a story line with which I could run around and go ape shit without being ganked by players all the time.

The graphics I really do not have any issue with. At all. Many people were gnawing their teeth because this "next gen game" features graphics in the fidelity which has been present since 2010 or even earlier. However when playing there is absolutely nothing making me stop and look around saying to myself "oh these graphics are terrible!". There is not a single thing that I would even call cringe-worthy.

The animations are very nice, especially when interacting with the Titans be them yours, your allies' or even your foes'. Audio is pretty immersive though I still don't care for the weapon sounds, they do sound a tad on the cheesy side. Which seems to be incredibly common with modern FPS games. Why can't they just record the sounds of actual gunfire?

Now the game play itself, is very fast paced. After putting in around 150 hours into Battlefield 4, I found it hard to jump in and go with the speed of the combat. Lots of people use this reference most when claiming that it feels like Call of Duty, and normally I would agree, however. The incredible usefulness of the parkour elements and the very interactive Titans (even combining the two into building scaling, roof leaping free falls onto an enemy Titan only to sabotage it from the top and slaughter the Pilot...) make for a game play that is fast, but it provides for many more options on how to go about your strategy to overtake your enemies or objectives.

All things considered, this game is very good. Is it everything they hyped it up to be? No. But it is worth my money and time, and I will surely play quite a few hours of the game.

I would rate it on a personal scale 7.5/10

Anyone else play the game and have any opinions on it?

Sounds about right. Haven't found the time yet to really consider this, might wait for the first expansion pack or DLC's or whatever to drop. Although that might put me in shark-filled waters once everyone has learned the game, but I think I'll manage.

Ehhh... I have a couple of issues with the game.  I did try out the beta, and what I'll say is that the parkour wall running is fun, and I really love the burn cards.  But after analyzing the full release... there's not much to it really.  Your weapon choices are limited and very stereotypical.  With the auto-pistol being an interesting exception.  But the Titans... the main gimick of the game... no.  At first, they feel great.  But then you begin to realize you have more success on the ground.  Titans are slow, bullet magnets.  And as the game's life goes on, the more people are realizing that Titans are not unstoppable machines,   Anti Titan weapons and jumping on the backs of the dumb things just makes the life span normally low, unless the people you're playing against really suck.  But I found on foot, I'm faster and more efficient at killing pilots.  Maybe not Titans as much, but that's what the anti Titan weapons are for.

I was told "Well... you don't have to play with Pilots.  There's a game mode where everyone is a Titan." Last Titan Standing game-mode is pointless.  When everyone is in a Titan, there is no more sense of scale.  It's just a typical death match at that point, with a few interesting abilities and bots that just become useless stepping stones.  Over-all, it looks like a bit of fun, but I emphasis a bit.  I love how fast paced it is, but this game is an experiment more than an experience.  I would love to see more unique ideas, but parkour, burn cards, and players playing in big bullet magnets.  The again... my boycott of EA solidly prevents me from even buying anything these people make,  So maybe not.

I have it for PC and so far playing it with my ps4 controller i have found the game to be pretty good, different but good. Its nice to see more innovation coming to the FPS world. Wall Running is one example whilst the auto targeting pistol is another. I would rate it thus far a 8.5/10

Numeric ratings... so helpful..

But yea, it's something different.  FPS players are wanting the genera to evolve and now we're getting unique investments that aren't just Call of Dooty clones.

I don't see why.  Duel Shock is a legitimate way to play FPS games.  I think they're a bit awkward compared to the 360 controller, but they're pretty solid if you're used to it.

Oh.. wait... does the PS4 controller actually have PC support now?  I didn't think it did.

I have to agree.  I wouldn't say it sucks... it's a pretty good game, and a nice change from the standard FPS, but it's really not enough to keep anyone interested.  There's a serious lack of content in this game to keep most people caring.  And to be honest, I could care less about Titains.  The ground combat is waaay more interesting.

I had fun with it. Just not enough stuff to keep me that interested for more than a few hours at a time here and there. Titans are fun to pilot though.

It's been quite awhile since release (close enough).  I'm very surprised there has been no real new content yet.  There are a ton of maps, which is nice... but people are sick of only using the auto-pistol.  They want something new.  More than 3 mecs and 2 shotguns.  But seriously... only 2 shotguns?  Come on...
