langdata.dat

I think the censoring of religious terms (note that Jesus is censored too) was just an attempt by EA to prevent religious debate/upsetting religious people playing the game. I think they went a bit overboard, but whatever.

It can be circumvented by renaming or deleting langdata.dat. However, I would like to keep the swear filter (just to anger those players who cannot express themselves properly). So to fulfill your request, we'd have to edit langdata.dat, which is a very difficult and time-consuming process. I'd rather spend that time actually developing things for the server.

If the censoring bothers you so much, just have your mates call you Mo, or spell it in one of the many ways EA has probably overlooked ;) You can also delete langdata.dat, though this might cause OOS errors (I'm not sure, you'd have to test it).

hi every one

I didn't know where I should mention this issue , so I decided to make a topic here . may will be considered in future patch. Of course I know that it's not related to patch development :)

as you know langdata.dat contains some bad words that have been filtered and when one player types one of these words in the game , it will be shown ******.

it's not really fair that this file icludes some islamic words such as "mohammad" (that is my first name too) and some other words. I don't know whether this policy is being applied in all of  EA games or not. but we all know that no one can insult other players by these words.

I wanted to know(as one of the many muslim players who are palying this game) is there any way to consider my demand in the future patch and correct this file?

thank you :)

thank you mathijs

yes you're right. I just looked it and realized that the names of all of the religions and prophets is filtered. I didn't know caz I've never typed jesus or related words. (for some politic reasons , I thought it's just for my religion :p)

it's nice to prevent religious debates (which I've never experienced and don't know how it could happen) but the name of prophets which is really common in today societies shouldn't be censored . as you said , they went a bit overboard.

however , if it's hard, then no problem. it's ok for me :)

deleting will solve problem but doesn't work for others I think . they should delete this file too.

may we should contact to EA :D

It doesn't only prevent religious debate, it also prevents people from insulting other people's religions (if I can write Muhammed, I can also write 'Muhammed is dumb', for example ;)). So all in all, it just helps to keep the focus on the game.

Oh and don't muslim parents generally give a child named Muhammed a second name by which he's usually called? :p

second name isn't so common in our culture. one in a thousand may have a second name.

also shortening  is not common.  someone who named cristiano ,for example. you may call him cris . but in persian language it's meaningless to shorten a name :p
