With GameSpy's servers going down on May 31 Generals and ZH will be left without online servers, unless EA suddenly pitches in like they do for other games (which I deem very unlikely). I wonder what our (modding) community's thoughts are on this.

As you probably know, I have reverse engineered a good deal of the server code for BFME and our custom server called T3A:Online is up and running already - although without stats and QuickMatch at this point. I believe I could add Generals and ZH support without too much effort, but that would require involvement of the Generals community here. What do you guys think?

The Generals community will live on over Hamachi and Tunngle, I guess... not to mention that Rise of the Reds is on it's way to deploy their own VPN. I don't know if this should be an inter-community effort to deploy a ZH:Online server tbh, since SWR has the spearhead of the Gen community, but if you think so, I would forward your message to them.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is SWR?

PPM will support any ZH/C&C3/RA3 online server that you deploy here, Phil.

I don't know if XWIS is taking the same initiative of expanding into these games, while CnCNet seem to be focused on TS and earlier games.

Most ZH pro-players are at GameReplays.org, as far as I know.

That's nice to hear. C&C3 and RA3 support would take a little more time because they use newer versions of some protocols, but it could be done in the future. Generals and ZH should be pretty easy.

SWR are the guys behind Rise of The Reds and Shockwave, the 2 most famous CnC Mods.

They also host the guys behind CnC Untitled, Deep Impact, and Tidal Wars and several others. Let's say that they were Fallout Studios, then there was a fight and they moved on their own business.

But yeah, CnC Generals servers could really spike up our activity here about these games and potentially increase modding around the Guild.

kudos to Pasidon for this awesome avvy and siggy!

Before going to Fallout Studios, Rise of the Reds was hosted here. And before being hosted here, they were hosted on Westwood Unleashed. Let's just say they have a long story in the C&C community .

I think this might be an opportunity to use Phil's knowledge of the Gamespy protocols as a trump card. We could try to contact techies from these other communities and ask them if they want to work with us, on Revora, to develop servers for these games...

We are actualy not behind those we are just hosting them on our community in the same way Revora hosts mods and other gaming related projects.

Did anyone ever take the lead on replacing gamespy for hosting CnC Generals?
