If you were paying attention you'd notice that Fregge already posted about that here, on this forum, a week ago :p

Fair enough. Sorry to hear about your dog, and I understand about the schoolwork...

It's all good news about the savegame freeze fix though :)

and for something like this, it should be plastered in more spots other than bug reporting, so i'm putting it here so others can see it

thanks. to be honest, its his fault he needed the surgery. he is 8 but he thinks he's 2. always running around, chasing squirrels and all that.

so, in non-technical terms, how does this thing work? does it just reset the date but let you keep all of the units and planets and everything that you had up to the point you last saved?

and can one of the forum admins change the title of this to "AND THERE WAS MUCH REJOICING" ? i can't seem to change it from here

Basically there's a counter in the save file that increases as units and structures are built. At a certain point it goes over some maximum allowed and breaks unit selection. This fix resets that counter so it fixed the problem.

1 counter. i'll be damned. wild guess: we can't alter the counter itself and allow it to accept a larger number because its in the engine or source code?

Correct. It's very much a hardcoded thing.

So what purpose does the counter serve other than to break games ?

I believe it was originally part of the game's scoring system.

Why devs continue to make games like this one with a game scoring feature is a mystery to me. Why not incorporate more useful gameplay systems or any other in-game options rather than telling me at the end of the game that I won with a score of ... I won, there's no point in telling me if it's considered  a Luke Skywalker level victory or a Salacious Crumb level victory.

Ah, old habits die hard it seems.
