So for those of you who are out of the loop or just did not hear.

Epic Games has made the Unreal Engine 4 available for 19.00 USD monthly.

They are currently on version 4.2.1 and are planning some pretty awesome things!

They are also working with partners such as Speed Tree, The Blender Foundation, and others to integrate into Unreal Engine but also make it affordable for Indies.

Ew. As cool as the rest sounds, I hate monthly/bimonthly payments. It's like Adobe CC. I wanna buy something once, not pay for it for an extended period of forever.

You can unsubscribe and keep using the current build. I do not think Creative Cloud does that however I could be wrong...

It is more or less you are paying for major updates which come out once a month or Bi monthly.

EDIT: I think you also loose access to source code if you unsub but I could be wrong on that.

For something like the Unreal Engine 4, that really isn't a bad deal at all.

Very true.  It's the most popular professional game creation kit, and it's an investment that could make you millions.

If they didn't have a price per month setup, it would likely cost a LOT. Much like licensing does for Graphic design software, and 3D modelling software.

Still more a fan of Unity's solution to these things, free or relatively cheap full price. Nothing any of us is going to make is going to deserve a UE AAA standard anyway.

Well, I loved their iniciative to support blender. 13k is not really a big amount of money, but it is something.

At least Blender is not getting the attention it deserves.

kudos to Pasidon for this awesome avvy and siggy!

13k, that's barely a few months worth of wages. they get more PR out of it than anything.

A really interesting development is the announcement of Tekken 7 that will be using the UE4 engine.
