Some interesting very early alpha of Mental Omega 3.0 I was shared by Dynamo few days ago. It used NPatch back in the days and was intended to be a continuation of events presented in Mental Omega 2.0, that's why there are still missions from 2.0 to select. As you can see, this Alpha was compiled one year before the 2.0psi. Some of these missions were planned or made and scrapped - some of you might remember an old MO 3.0/Ares trailer with one of the missions planned to be released with 3.0 called "Ghosts". Ghosts never reached to the any Ares-based Mental Omega 3.0 Beta release, it was scrapped together with other 3 missions. On ModDB there was also a screenshot of another mission that wasn't released with Ares based Mental Omega 3.0, it's in this alpha release anyway.

Some interesting trivia about this release.

  • Cyborg Prototype from Immortal, works exactly the same way like Cyborg from Mental Omega BR1. Uses minigun for ground units and nuclear grenades against buildings
  • A lot of missions are changed or renamed in 2.0psi. 
  • Prince Aziz "almost" made an appearance in Mental Omega 3.0. He was scrapped in 2011/2012 and replaced by the Rashidi as a Scorpion Cell guy. Killing Fields was one of the earliest missions made for Mental Omega 3.0 together with Red Dawn Rising, Heaven & Hell and Enter The Machine (early release of Unshakeable). Aziz was indeed in these first releases of Killing Fields, he is still in string files.

A final mission for both Allies and Soviets is completely different at start than in 2.0psi. You have a lot of air reinforcements at start.

Martinoz, you forgot 3 missions afaik:

 

- One was the one in Italy playing as Soviets where you had 2 Crazy Ivans and an Armadillo and you had to destroy the Chronosphere remains, while the Allies are busy fighting Epsilon Forces.

 

- Another Soviet mission which happens in Argentina/Chile, which uses the same map as Unshakable, where you had to destroy (or capture, can´t remember) the Future Tech facility and capture Einsten.

 

- And one in a desert area, where you played as the Scorpion Cell and had to defend some... pilons...

 

Oh, and on the last Allied mission you also got some Future Tank reinforcements.

 

Yeah, on early 3.0, before the decision of rewriting the story, there were some extra Allies vs Soviet and Soviet vs Allied missions, more in a way which one sabotages the other to avoid them to gain a upper hand after the war with Yuri ended.

What is the mental omega device that is mentioned in the bottom right hand corner of the screen shoots of the final missions ?

Interesting missions. I still like the current 3.0 story, but those would make fine missions if anyone wanted to redo the 2.0 campaign with the current release.

 

I like the missions that get politcial too, like when China turns on Russia. Allies should have at least one internal fighting mission. Not just mind controlled. Like an allied country going rogue or something.

Nah, BR2 will come this year, no worries. Also there are plans of doing more frequent updates after BR2

 

And keep in mind that the old 3.0 was supposed to be something like 2.0. Most of the stuff (history rework, 95% of the missions, total voxel rework with the help of azri_apoc, complete rework on the factions, etc) which was done for 3.0 started more or less in 2011.

I like those rebel units too. Why were they scrapped from the files? They have a lot of potential for mission purposes. Maybe as an unaffiliated group besides the 3 superpower sides, or as extra stuff for Scorpion Cell's pre-Epsilon forces.

I got here in March 2011 and only the complete rework part has not been started that time.

Oh man, I loved those final Missions from Soviet/Allied in 2.0, seeing those pics(with more help clearing that beach) brings back good times.

 

if anything, I'd like to see that mission revisited for future releases.

It will never get released, obviously. It's like releasing an alpha version of a game when full game is already out.
