[Generals] Launch Issue Missing CD

Best Answer Fried Chicken, 17 December 2014 - 05:38 AM

Thanks for the reply.

Running the file normally still gave the missing CD error.

I was able to fix this error by re-installing the game and following all the required steps.

Hi all, I am trying to return to my beloved C&C Generals Zero Hour

My Setup::

Windows 8.1

Using C&C the Ultimate Collection purchased on Origin

I previously launched the game by running it as administrator in compatibilty mode for Windows XP SP3 and I set up my options for my computer.

When trying to get CNC online to work, I first had to follow the instructions provided here to fix the "Generals/Zero Hour Installation Not Found" error.

I then proceeded to follow these instructions to fix "installation cannot be found" (from the same link as above)

1) Install the C&C Online launcher
2) Install both Generals & Zero Hour via Origin (or via retail disc, remember to patch both games)
3) Install the fixed launchers (applicable only if you have the Ultimate Collection via Origin) DOWNLOAD
4) Install GenTool (can be installed if you have Origin versions / retail versions)
5) Run the C&C Online launcher, click on the "Hook" menu and select Generals & ZH
6) Launch Generals/Zero Hour via Origin / desktop shortcut
7) Enabling the hook option in step 5 should now trigger the C&C Online launcher to open
8) Pick the game you want to play
9) Play!

I am now getting the error "Missing CD", "Please insert the first game CD".  While I actually have the CD (from yesteryear), my computer does not have a CD drive (Apple iMac).

I have searched, and the only results google puts up are from the previous decade.

Any help would be appreciated!  Getting Zero Hour running now is just like installing the game way back when :D with all the hoops to jump through.

Quick Update: This is only for Zero Hour, and not for Generals base game.  Not sure what's going on here.

With the new versions of GenTool you don't actually need to use the launcher any more. Unhook the game in the launcher and just run the game normally.
