But it looked cool! (which was so often the deciding factor in this movie...)

Mathijs, how did you feel about the elven strategy when the orcs showed up? You know, the one where they decided to use their swords, AND render the semi-phalanx of the dwarves useless at the same time?
I quite like that they decided to help, but it was a silly way to attack.
It looked cool but it was a dumb move. They spent some time showing off how quickly these Elves could draw bows and notch arrows, so why did they not rain down a few volleys to thin the herd before going in close? It could have been an equally cool shot, with the Orcs about to clash into the Dwarven phalanx (awesome concept, that) and the first wave getting annihilated by Elven arrows.
Also +10 for your post Bart.

The one big thing i noticed was that Bard had his arrows on his back yet when he was going over the roof tops some how they just disappeared and re-appeared, lazy editing if you ask me. The Legolas stunts are fun and all but for once i agree that they were overdone just a tad.
Now as for the The Hobbit movies as a whole? I enjoyed them. Enough said. Haha

As far as lazy editing goes, let's not forget that Frodo's gash magically moved from the right side of his face to the left side a couple times during his ascent of Mount Doom.

This makes the Hobbit trilogy bland and tasteless because it is simply appealing to the public masses for money's sake, and not for the sake of the middle-earth saga.

Well the battle looked cool, especially when we saw both Elf and Dwarf armies.

I saw the film in "4DX" which is 3d plus moving seats, additional pokes and prods, "wind" in your face and even basic smells (the return to the Shire had a very distinct nature smell that brought a massive grin to my face).
Woooaaahhh...

Haha, it's a common thing here in Korea. It cost (the equivalent of) $17
I guarantee it would cost at least $40+ to see it here in the U.S.

Loved the Smaug & Bard scene. The Special FX with Sauron looked absolutely terrible, like something from Nintendo 64. Nevertheless was a decent film, doesnt keep up with the LOTR Trilogy though

I would have loved to see the meeting of Balin and the start of the quest for Moria. Ohh well...

You should read my book then: The Lord of Moria. It's a story which first describes the journey (a bit extended with a little amount of own input, hehe ) in 12 chapters and the second part starts five years later, when Balin is shot. I'm on about 30.000 words now and I plan to add at least 15.000 to finish it. (Sorry I'm a bit enthausiastic)

Hey now... this isn't a valid rip-off of Rage Hammer that I can complain about at all. Where are the flatulence jokes and midget puns? I spent my internet'less month plotting 'orrible things to say about this.
I mostly agree with your novel. As only a pleb with brain disease would defend this movie. Yet, I don't think they should have edited the Dol Guldur scene in any way... I think they should have ripped that dirty fetus right out of the womb before it was even conceived. Regardless of that metaphor not really making much sense, having Elrond, Gladriel, Sauman and Gandy gather around a table and talk (in character!) for a few minutes was just a bit of pointless fan servicing that needed to be sacked. And the battle scene at Dol Guldur (both of them) made my soul hurt since it was so stupid. I'm not even going to mention how out-of-character it was that the most unpronounceable evil of evils left Gandalf in a cage for a week or two, rather than just killing him willy nilly. Yea, sure... I can see why Sauman left him on top of his giant penis tower in the Return of Shadow films... they were old friends, and there was reasoning there. Yet, the entire Dol Guldur thing was just pointless and stupid, and the final conflict between the retarded CGI ghosts and the A-Team of Middle-Earth was fan service that went way too far. It was all really, really, really, badly written and only existed to make the most hardcore of LotR nerds dry-heave as a result. The whole Curse of the Hero in Need theme in these films, especially The Five Armies, was beyond 'needs a bit more editing.' By that, I mean the scenes that had our hero(es) almost get off'ed, then suddenly, our other hero(es) arrive and save the day right at the last minute. That needed to stop immediately, and it made me ill how many times they did it.
