I have ready the how-to thread. I have the normal version of Red Alert 3 on Steam and whenever I try to launch the game through the C&C Online window it pops up with a window saying "Application load error 5:0000065434" and when I click "Ok" on that window it pops up with another one saying "CA public key patching routine failed". I am using windows 8.

If you have read how-to thread you should post your Error log as requested in the topic "How to report issues ".
Have you tried the solution for "CA public key patching routine failed" written in the pinned post too?

The described way to find the Error log wasn't working and I was hoping to get help without it, I've since found a way to get to it. Yes I did try the CA public key matching solution.

Just to be sure, have you done this:

1. Unhook everything you might have hooked.

2. Create desktop shortcut from inside Steam.

3. Hook.

4. Use the newly created desktop shortcut to launch the C&C:Online launcher and then your game.

Note that it has to be in this exact order.

I have tried those things in that order. The Red Alert 3 shortcut doesn't do anything and using the C&C: Online results in the same errors as before.

Can you try the following solution?

launch RA3 normally (Just launch RA3, without C&C: Online), after you've done it, open your task manager, and end the "RA3.exe" process, then open your C&C:Online launcher, click the link to start the game.

Done, and the error still pops up when I click the link to launch the game through C&C Online.

I suggest a full reinstall. Unhook the launcher, uninstall C&C:Online, then uninstall RA3.
