So in theory, if no-one watches the toast falling, it'll land on it's edge...This has something to do with the observer effect.
The morphogenetic fields (or quantum wave functions) interfere with the probability of the butter falling down on either side.
In fact, before you observe the butter, it has fallen on neither side, it is in a state between that of not-that and not-that-either.
And who says rule 39 is only applied to Anime?
