This map's texturing needs a lot of work, particularly the third image.

I asked Matt to make it like that(as per GR), coz I like it. Competitve gamers/cws.cc dont have massively high standards of Art, any reskin keeps us pretty happy. We have, after all, played FOI & Udun for cws since 2007, kinda gets old after 8 million games

A word of friendly advice, if you made reskins for your BFME1 stuff, youd get a lot of interest.

Who care mathjis, it's for the cw players we are all happy of the new map, and Val work on 1.09 so instead of you he don't have infinite time to do all those "hard work" maybe you can help us Mathjis... if you have any skill for that ?

Oh I'm sorry Xelenos, I didn't realize a point of criticism would get your knickers all twisted.

The map is a reskin, right? That's the selling point. So why not make it the best reskin it can be?

Its about Target Audience Math. Revora has high standards, nothing wrong with that at all. But the people who actually play online, AKA Gameranger, are very happy to get reskins etc as long as its of relatively good quality. I'm not about to participate in an argument with Xel, criticism is helpful, simply pointing out that the Target Audience is very different, and as such, can pretty much guarantee that doing these sort of things for the BFME1 community would be greeted in open arms

How do you distribute them? Manual downloads for everyone that would like to test them out? Eg custom maps?

Yeah. But of course, when you host in Gameranger as long as the host has the map it can be transferred in-game. So it spreads quickly and means that people who dont know how to add maps manually get it automatically via transfer. Thats good becoz most of the online community are quite illiterate with PC stuff

So what you're saying is you're giving them mediocre reskins because you know they've seen the same maps so many times they'll play them regardless of quality, just to see something different?

You're creating a patch that you want the whole BFME2 community to play (or so I assume), which means you've put yourself in the position of defining the standard of quality that BFME2 players will see. If you acknowledge that these maps are supposed to be visual refreshings of old material while also acknowledging the visual quality is mediocre, you're intentionally standardizing subpar material. If you do not have the time to apply at least the vanilla game's quality to everything you add, you should not be adding them in the first place.

EDIT: Just saying, T3A:Online also transfers maps. ;)

I'm already transfering the map to few people as it was for EA server(obviously included on the game code), this topic should be locked the people who want the patch will get it if they don't want it they can just ignore it, you guy can reply on Gamereplay and see what the bfme2 and cw community think about it, it will be better for you to confront them if u have interesting things to say.

Seems you are skilled for mapping Mathjis maybe u should bring us some map of yours...., and for you people before talking u better download the map and critic the work after cause atm no one downloaded a map from here.

You know, you both have your points ;)

We actually discussed the idea long ago and I'd probably like to pick it up again.

Mathijs is totally correct, about standards and the quality of the maps. Which is why I've been willing to update the maps and never seem quite finished with them.

Udun's terrain simply uses a texture replace to get the texturing out quickly.

The Fords of Isen clone did have perfect terrain, but when texture matching to Udun's terrain (by replacing textures) brought with it many terrain texture glitches that would have taken a couple of days to fix. I'll take another look at the dirt paths. The dead leaves on rivendell dirt terrain is used under the river, I thought it matched but I can use a different terrain that won't match Udun but probably look better.

So basically with the other map it had nice smooth terrain until I replaced all the textures, that caused a lot of issues.

Trees are not my fault. Those maps once had fantastic trees. Apparently people can't see units through them. Let's just say that they are supposed to be shrubberies and that anyone can chop them down with herrings if they want to. =p

Ah, so you worked on these? Would you say they were released prematurely?

About the dead leaves; I think it's visually jarring, plus I'm not sure if leaves would be sitting like that under a stream. :p

Yes I worked on them, but nah, I gave the okay for them to be released, it was my mistake. Valheru/Unr3al and I have been chatting about these maps for days and I was happy for the public to see them. =p I am thankful for any and all sort of criticism. =D

I did mention that I didn't need to be attributed in the map description so it is okay if they didn't mention me when posting the showcases. Valheru knows where I stand because I do not like the idea of an unofficial patch.

Xelonos has talking completely out of place. There is no need to defend it and don't go onto Gamereplays to complain about the work we do here. You know that T3A:Online is being developed and that the support here for the online service is growing while Gameranger won't. Anyway, I should thank you for posting these topics so I could get criticism, I depend on that more than what I've heard on Gamereplays so far.

I never acknowledged their mediocre, I said relatively good(from the online community's PoV). Don't twist my words Mathijis. You also completely exxagerate to the point that people will play them regardless of quality. Thats not what I said.  Fyi everyone in the online community/cws.cc likes them better than EA's, what opinion Revora has is effectively irrelevant because once again, it's not the target audience. I dont mean that in a bad way, just sayin, you wouldnt buy a Ferrari for Grandma in a nursing home now would you? Theres no need, the people who use the maps are pretty happy as is. Its nice that there are plenty of skilled folks over here but we dont need A-Grade quality, anything at or above ea's is fine

E-Thankyou to Matt for your work, the feedback so far from players has been purely positive.

I don't want to revive an old *flame* topic but I'm with Mathijs on this one. If map is still with this skin it needs a lot of work and personally, I wouldn't play it over the original one just because it's different. As for the trees, they can be playable like that but I've never experienced problems with normal-sized ones. I agree that you must have a balanced map as much as you can, but not into realism's fault. It is a good idea to come with a reskin, but it should be of higher quality if it's included in a patch. The Fords reskin is better however.

PS: Matt, replacing texturing almost never works, unless they blended perfectly automatically and they are similar. Best way to reskin is to export heightmap and objects, then paint from blank again.

Also what's going on with this DurinofWarriors guy? spammer?

Let's not start this up again. :p

As to DurinofWarriors, I have no idea. Google says he's asking people if they speak Turkish in several threads.
