In Topic: How to create a straw texture

Just search it on Google Images with the usage rights setting on 'labeled for reuse with modification'. Simples.

Personally, I like mayang.com's textures

Uhhm. I guees you didn't really understand what I was looking for. Again: I am not looking for pure or so called "plain" textures of specific forms like straw or hay. My Problem is to find a "technique" to create overlapping straw, which goes over the titled edge of the texture, to be used with an alphachannel.

Honestly? Most modders just use royalty free textures instead of brush strokes.

And where do I get such specific alpha-textures from? And don't give me a cgtextures-link now, cause there are just "plain" textures...

I usually do what Irenë said...

But!

I know how to do it by hand.

Grey surface > slightly darker grey brush on overlay (small, around 3p) > stroke stroke stroke > dodge brush around 45% hardness and opacity (small, around 3pp) > stroke stroke stroke > burn brush around 25% hardness and opacity (small, around 3p) > stroke stroke stroke > CTRL-U, colourize, change hue to golden-ish), then attack it with the dodge brush again. That should get some results.

Thank you very much :)

Have you tried getting a copy (cough) of max 8 and see if that's any different?

I didn't think about this, cuz the Shaders (Normal Maps, and so) of Electronic Arts' released ModSdK and all my, so far, made models won't work in the newer version 8, right? Just supposing.

Have you tried adding -h to the 3ds max shortcut and picking a different graphic setting?

Jup, Open GL, DirectX and Software - Setting. All did not work :(
