Bad News

26 February 2011 - 04:28 PM

Mobius after his long absence posted some bad news on Moddb and Filefront three weeks ago (wish I had seen it sooner):

Hi guys, it's been a while now (10 months to be exact). I'll get straight to the point: I decided to take a break, due to school and sports taking up 95% of my time, but I never got around to working on the mod again. A few weeks ago, I was looking through my games and found EAW, at that point I felt terrible for having worked so hard on a mod for a year and a half only to forget about it and stop, so I decided to release the beta version I had released to my testers... thing is though when I looked through my computer neither of my copies of ETM were there.

Now at this point I'm devastated, all my work had disappeared, so I spent hours going through my hard-drives, and my external USB drives, but it wasn't there, all I had was a folder containing 3rd party resources such as models and textures from other modders. All the coding was gone, all the models i made, all the textures i edited, all the scripts, the audio files, the time i put into it was gone.

So if you all will forgive me, I will not be releasing this mod, unless by some twist of fate I stumble upon the files, at which point I will clean it up real quick and release a beta version, or if one of my testers appear ( can't even remember who my testers are) and send me a copy of the mod, but don't count on it.

I would like to thank EVERYONE for the support in this community, you guys kept me motivated and working even though I had no team, I learned from every single one of you, and I picked up skills in modding that are helping me out in real life (photoshop, 3ds max, coding, etc.)

Anyways, I'm out, probably won't hear from me much again, but I'll stop by in any case to check out the new mods coming up.. remember quality over quantity.

- Mob

So there's still a little hope, but not much. If you were a beta tester for this mod and still have the beta files please contact Mobius on Moddb or Filefront forums as it is where he posted this article. It would be great to see even a small part of this mod released.

HALO: Campaign Commander

14 January 2011 - 05:11 PM

Hey everybody, long time no see. Sorry for not sharing the latest modding news, but I was busy with the holidays and real life stuff. I'm back now and here is a newer mod that I found out about not long ago...yes another Halo mod but it looks great, mod is being made by Farseer (creator of the Rise of the Mandalorians mod hosted here on Petrolution).

HALO: Campaign Commander

Moddb Description:

The human race trembles beneath your feet as you march forth towards glorious salvation, conquering or burning all worlds in your path.

Desperate odd call for daring heroes and ultimate sacrifices. Defend every world to the last as you fight for survival against a fanatic alien horde!

HALO: Campaign Commander puts you behind in control of the mightiest armies that the UNSC or Covenant has to offer. Fight a single battle or pit yourself in endless skirmishes across an entire galaxy, using all the units you've come to love from the Halo universe.

Although there are no official news posting, there are a handful of the always elusive in the modding world, the "in-game" screenshots. Here are a select few I have chosen.

MOTY Top 100

05 December 2010 - 09:29 PM

Well voting for phase 2 of Moddb's MOTY awards started a few days ago and with the Top 100 officially announced I'd like to congratulate all those that made it. I wish them luck in phase 2 of voting. Speaking of which, please vote. Take a couple of seconds out of your day to vote for one or two of your favorite mods. As I said in my previous news post about phase 1 voting, "Remember mod team members are modding on their own free time, everyone likes a little acknowledgement for their work from time to time."

On another Petrolution-related note, I'd especially like to congratulate Sci-Fi at War, which is hosted here on the Petrolution forums, as well as the other Empire at War mods that also made the Top 100. This year has seen the most EaW mods make the Top 100 since I've been apart of the community (2007) and probably since EaW (and expansion FOC) has been released (2006). So I'd especially encourage you to support the EaW/Petro community by voting for at least one of the EaW mods that made it (see below).

Moddb MOTY 2010

21 November 2010 - 08:49 PM

Once again, it is time for Moddb's Mod of the Year (MOTY) awards. There are only about 8 days left for phase one of voting, so please I encourage you to vote for some of your favorite mods, not only in this phase but the next phase as well. Voting for even one of your favorites would be great and would only take away a second from your day *looks toward second-hoarders* ...just one second, that's it. Let mod teams know that you care, maybe...just maybe it will give mod teams the needed motivation to make them upgrade their modding speed from "turtle speed" to "rhino speed" (Sim City reference) :ermm: Seriously though, let mods know that people want to see the finished product by helping the mods get into the Top 100. Remember mod team members are modding on their own free time, everyone likes a little acknowledgement for their work from time to time.

This year there have been quite a few new mods released for Empire at War, and there are many unreleased EAW mods that are nearing the home stretch after years of development. So again take one second out of your day to support your favorite(s).

Shadow of the Empire

26 August 2010 - 06:24 PM

I'm surprised that there isn't already a thread for this mod.

Shadow of the Empire is a mod that is being created by Jedi_Consulor. The mod not only adds new units and new planets, but also new features and new story events. The mod's timeline takes place in the middle-late period of the Galactic Civil War from 3 ABY-10 ABY. You'll be able to experience the fall of the Emperor and his resurrection as well as the birth of the New Republic. You'll be able to play as the Galactic Empire, the Rebellion/New Republic, and the Hutt Underworld. Who's side will you choose, will you help keep the Galactic Empire together, will you try to dismantle it as the New Republic, or will you try to undermine both the Empire and New Republic as the Hutt Underworld in order to expand your criminal empire?

I've played the latest alpha of this mod and it is definitely high on my list (if not at the top) of my most anticipated mods. SOTE has been in development for quite sometime, and it's getting closer and closer to release. It shouldn't be much longer now, but I'll continue to keep you updated.

Mod's Official Description:

SHADOW OF THE EMPIRE

A New weapon just as powerful as the Death Star has emerged, and the New Republic seeks to find out what the new weapon is.

Grand Admiral Thrawn and his fleet later reform the Imperial Fleet after the later destruction of the Death Star II at the Battle of Endor and engage the New Republic Force.

There's no recent official news update, however, JC has just released some new screenshots:
