In Topic: Am I the only one who STILL cannot get this to work?

Have you tried doing what's written in this post?

Well unbelievably that did actually make it work.

Sort of.

It worked like an absolute dream in skirmish mode for exactly 5 minutes before crashing to desktop with the message 'The main executable has stopped working' or something to that effect. I tried it again twice, with the exact same result.

I know it's a great mod you've made so I don't particularly mind having to restart my computer every time I want to play it to disable and re-enable UAC, but not if it crashes after 5 minutes!

So am I to assume there's no fix for this? It just refuses to work on a select few computers for no discernible reason?

Well I suppose I'll go back to the earlier version which is still pretty dam good. Assuming that works of course, which isn't looking likely.

Normally setting the correct compatibility mode should fix it if i remember correctly, but i don't know why it doesn't work here.

I've literally tried everything in every compatibility mode and running as an admin, including the launcher, gamemo.exe and even gamemd.exe out of desperation to no avail... I think we can conclude it's nothing to do with that.

Do you have .NET 3.0 and 3.5 (and possibly 2.0 too)? Do you have the MSVC++ 2010 Redistributable package?

I have .NET 3.5 but my computer wont let me install any earlier versions for some reason. Am I supposed to have all of them simultaneously? Also my computer wont let me install MSVC++ 2010 because a message pops up saying it's not compatible with Vista (even though I'm not running Vista, which is slightly confusing).

What anti-virus do you have? While your problem doesn't sound like an anti-virus issue, better check this one too. Maybe it blocks the game from launching in some weird way.

I have BitDefender, Spybot Search & Destroy and MalwareByte's Anti-Malware. They don't seem to object to it at all but it might be worth trying the mod with them disabled, maybe I'll give that a go.

Are you running your game with a CD or without? While MO should be able to launch perfectly fine without, better check if it works in both cases.

I've tried it both with and without a CD with the same result...

Could you try making a backup of your gamemd.exe file, rename gamemo.exe into gamemd.exe and then run the game through cncnet (when the cncnet window pops up, click on "settings" and type "gamemd.exe" -CD -LOG into the Command Line Arguments text field)?

I did exactly as you said and got that message as soon as I click 'Play on CnCNet', so I had no opportunity to access any settings or anything.

Alternatively, you could do it the other way: rename gamemd.exe into gamemo.exe and try running then.

I tried doing this and clicking 'Play On CnCNet' and it did literally nothing. A box appears saying 'Connecting to CnCNet in x seconds', that disappears, and then nothing happens.

Also post full debug.log and syringe.log you get when trying to run the game. I doubt it will help us, but still.

Initialized Ares version: 13.257.914
Optimizing list of CD drives for NoCD mode.
Checking available disk space
Using GetDiskFreeSpaceEx
Free disk space is 675810 Mb
MessageListClass::Init(Width: 632)

^ Debug.log always says the same thing ^, just those 6 lines.

Here's a download of syringe.log for everyone who wants to take a look

I get the feeling that this is unsolvable at the present time. It just absolutely refuses to work.

I know I'm not the only one with this problem, but no one seems to have a definitive solution. I've searched high and low to absolutely no avail. This error message appears when I click 'Launch Mental Omega' (and 'Play on CnCNet'), and stops the mod from working.

Some further info for you:

- I've tried a clean re-install of Red Alert 2, Yuri's Revenge and the mod (several times). Same error.

- The mod is installed in the correct place (/westwood/RA2, where all the Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge files are). As I said I've done several completely clean re-installs and I've never installed any other mods, so there can't be any dodgy residual files or anything like that.

- I've tried running it as an administrator, and tried running it in every combination of compatibility modes. Same error.

- For the record I'm using a brand new 64bit Windows 7 Home Premium PC which runs Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge perfectly fine.

- Red Alert 2 works fine on it's own. As does Yuri's Revenge.

- Basically there is no reason in the known universe why the mod shouldn't be working.

Here's the contents of debug.log which doesn't seem to provide any clue at all (and I can upload syringe.log if anyone wants):

What is causing this error and what can I do about it?
