#947456 Kings of the West mod v1.2 released!

Posted by GothmogtheOrc on 01 February 2014 - 06:51 PM

I've released version 1.3 of the mod over on ModDB; here is the link. Fairly minor changes, just a few bug fixes. I did include all INI files, so this version is compatible with the community patches (insofar as it overwrites them  ).

Unless any major bugs or balance problems come to light in the near future, I'm fairly sure that this will be the last version of the mod. I feel like my vision for the mod has more or less been accomplished and I'm not aware of any major items that I haven't finished, fixed, or discarded. Of course, who is to say that in six months I won't play a few rounds of BFME and discover I forgot something! So I suppose anything is possible :) But for now I'm moving on to other things.

Till we meet again!

#942460 Kings of the West mod v1.2 released!

Posted by GothmogtheOrc on 27 December 2013 - 04:20 PM

Merry Christmas to all! As a surprise present, I give you version 1.2 of my Kings of the West mod.

You can download it over at ModDB: http://www.moddb.com...f-the-west-mod/

There is a ReadMe included in the mod, but here is a basic summary of changes:

  • Forged blades removed
  • Fire Arrows can be easily toggled on/off once purchased
  • Banner Carriers now raise to level 4
  • Gondor and Rohan AI improved
  • Command Point limits raised
  • Lots of bugs fixed and in-game text cleaned up
  • Rohan balance completely changed so as to encourage the use of cavalry

There will almost certainly be a version 1.3 of the mod (likely to fix balance issues related to Rohan), released in the next week or two, so please head over to my sub-forum and leave me feedback about this version and how I can improve it for the next version: http://forums.revora...on-12-feedback/

The mod comes with an installer and shortcuts for both 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems. I have not yet tested it to see if it is compatible with community patch 1.05 (the existence of which I just discovered last night). I will make version 1.3 compatible with community patch 1.05+.

This ends the information about the mod, I hope you enjoy it! I would like to take a brief moment to discuss why I came back and how long I'll be around for - if you don't care about that, then you can stop reading here  ;)

A few weeks back I finally replaced my ancient, 7 year old laptop with a new beast of a machine (i7 quad core, SSD, 8GB RAM, dedicated video card, etc) and so I decided to try out BFME again and for the first time ever I got to play it on highest graphics and finally use my Minas Morgul castle in a real game (my old laptop wasn't powerful enough to render it in an actual game). I had quite a bit of fun :D but I also saw a number of bugs and was frustrated by some of them (every unit using Theoden's voice for instance). So I decided to fix it and real life cooperated and gave me a several week long window of free time where I could actually devote time to the mod. Unfortunately that window of free time is closing fast and by the end of the first week in January, I will really need to get back to other projects. So I won't be able to stick around for long, but I'm excited about the T3A:Online server (I'm going to be trying that out today or tomorrow) and I am definitely going to try to release one more version of the mod next week to fix any issues I discover in this one, or that are reported by the community. After that I'm afraid I'll be fading into the mist again, but maybe with the server running I can stop by occasionally for an online game or two; after all, I do enjoy BFME quite a bit!

Again, I hope you enjoy the mod and I'm glad to see this place is still around after all this time  :thumbsuphappy:
